The 63 honourees were selected from 146 candidates nominated by local farmers’ associations in the 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
Speaking at the event, VFU Chairman Luong Quoc Doan hailed that over the past two years, Vietnamese farmers have exerted every effort to overcome the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, remained united, and promoted creativity in maintaining production activities, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of their localities and the whole country in general.
He noted with pleasure that there are numerous exemplary farmers who stood out in various fields of agricultural, forestry and fishery production and have adopted advanced technical solutions and innovations to successfully build effective economic models while actively joining hands to protect the country’s borders and the national sovereignty over sea and islands.
Many farmers have also actively participated in social programmes and charity activities to support needy people and those affected by natural disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic, he added.
For his part, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien stressed that agriculture, rural areas and farmers are always identified by the Party and State as having a strategic position in the national cause of industrialisation, modernisation, construction and defence.
He asked the VFU to closely coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to improve the value of agricultural products in order to meet domestic consumption and export demands and increase the incomes and living conditions of farmers.
