Bac Giang: 2.5 million USD donated at “Action month for the Poor” launching ceremony

(BGO)- Bac Giang provincial Fatherland Front Committee held a ceremony on 17 October to launch the peak month “For the poor” 2019 (from 17 October to 18 November) and the social security programmes 2020.  

The event was attended by Le Thi Thu Hong, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly deputies delegation in Bac Giang province, Lai Thanh Son, Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and Tran Cong Thang, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Tran Cong Thang stressed, the Party and State have a consistent policy of economic development in line with implementation of social advancement and equality and improving people’s quality of life in which poverty eradication is an important goal.

Organizations and individuals can donate the “For the Poor” Fund directly at the Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang province at 3rd Floor, Building B, the provincial inter-agency headquarters (Square 3-2), Bac Giang city; or transfer money to the account of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee, account number 3761.0.1062613, code of target programme: 91046, at the State Treasury of Bac Giang province.

From October 2018 to 30 September 2019, the fatherland front committees at all levels and related organizations mobilised 71 billion VND (more than 3 million USD) to the “For the Poor” Fund

This Fund has been spent to present some 38,300 gifts of cash and 90,000 in-kind donations to needy households, support in building and repair 929 houses for the poor and helping the families suffering from risks and accidents.

These activities contributed to sharing with and helping the poor to overcome difficulties and gradually stabilize their lives.

He affirmed, the peak month “For the poor” this year (from 17 October to 18 November) calls for involvement of the entire political system and joining hands of the people to support the poor and nearly poor households and needy people.

It is targeted to mobilise 50 billion VND (2.1 million USD) for the Fund “For the Poor” and the social security programmes 2020.

Speaking at the event, Lai Thanh Son highly appreciated the agencies, enterprise and donors for the practical activities making significant contributions to poverty reduction and ensuring social security of the province.

The provincial Permanent Vice Chairman called the agencies at all levels, sectors, organizations, units, localities, officers and soldiers of the armed forces, enterprises, overseas Vietnamese and people of all strata across the province to proactively support for the poor and the social security programmes, helping the local party committees and governments to fulfill the poverty reduction targets in the period from 2016 to 2020 in accordance with the Resolution of the 18th provincial Party Congress.

Besides, he requested the media agencies to accelerate propaganda on the purposes and meanings of the campaign, introducing the good examples in supporting the poor and overcoming difficulties.

The fatherland front committees at all levels need to strictly manage and properly use the fund for the poor while playing the role as the coordinators of the resources and carrying out activities for poor households on lunar New Year occasion and social security programme 2020.

Outstanding enterprises in poverty reduction and social security programmes 2019 are awarded certificate of merit by the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

At the launching ceremony, 28 units, localities and enterprises registered to donate 58 billion VND (2.5 million USD) to the “For the Poor” Fund in which the people’s committees of Lang Giang district, Tan Yen district and Bac Giang city, Tan Thinh Construction Company Limited and Lam Son Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company registered to donate a large sum.

On this occasion, 15 collectives were awarded by the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the provincial Fatherland Front for the outstanding achievements in poverty reduction and social security programmes 2019.

(BGO) – Duong Hoang Tra (born in 1984) in Long Van village, Phuc Son commune, Tan Yen district (Bac Giang province) used to have a happy family. He worked as a carpenter and his wife named Nguyen Thi Thu worked at a garment company. They got married with 3 children, the oldest is 9 years old and smallest is few month old.

(BGO) - Thanks to proper collection, classification and treatment of household waste, the women’s union of Tan An commune, Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province earns some tens of million VND (some 432 USD) annually to support poor women and children.
