Bac Giang bags 19 medals at National Youth Chinese Chess Championships

(BGO)- After 9 competing days (from July 3 to 11), the 2022 National Youth Chinese Chess Championships closed at Khanh Hoa Sports Arena on April 11. Bac Giang team excellently won 19 medals at this event.

The tournament jointly held by Vietnam Sports Administration, Vietnam Chess Federation and Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports attracted more than 250 male and female players of 15 teams from many provinces and cities. The players were divided into seven age groups (from 7 to 20) competing in the events of rapid chess, blitz chess, standard chess and traditional chess.

Bac Giang team joined the tournament with 12 players including three 15-year old players and the rest aged from 9 to 13, 50 percent of whom competed at the national tournament for the first time. With high determination and concentration, Bac Giang team excellently won 19 medals of different types including 5 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 5 bronze medals, ranking 3rd following Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh province.

Particularly, player Pham Bao Toan (under-9 category) bagged 2 gold medals in individual’s and team’s traditional chess events, player Phung Bao Quyen (under- 15 category) won 2 gold medals in individual’s and team’s blitz chess events while player Hoang Manh Hung (under- 9 category) won 1 gold medal in individual’s rapid chess event.

This is also the first time the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has brought the province’s athletes to compete at the National Youth Chinese Chess Championships. Bac Giang team left vivid impression at this tournament with 19 medals of all types including several gold medals.
