Bac Giang develops handicraft industries
Chit broom handicraft has been established and developed in Noi Hac village, Viet Lap commune for 20 years creating jobs and stable income for local people.

“At the very beginning, my family used the available material resources to make brooms mainly for domestic demand and selling some products to local market. Then, chit broom has become a favourite product for many people; thus we imported materials from other provinces to expand the production scale”, said Dang Van Huy, a long-time broom maker.
In a peak time, all of the 4 people in Huy family involve in the job to deliver more than 100 brooms per day at a wholesale price from 40,000 to 60,000 VND (1.6 to 2.4 USD) for each bearing a profit of 2 million VND (82 USD). On Lunar New Year occasion when the demand increases, Huy’s family imports some tonnes of materials a month before and hires from 3 to 5 workers to ensure the supply.
Rice noodle handicraft in Chau Son village, Ngoc Chau commune also brings good economic efficiency. There are more than 50 households in the village do this handicraft and 2 noodle production and consumption cooperatives attracting over 200 labourers with average income from 10 to 12 million VND (410 to 493 USD) per month. Many households earn stable income from this handicraft.
Tan Yen district is home to 3 trade villages, 40 enterprises and cooperatives creating jobs for more than 15,000 labourers. The district also has over 3,000 production, individual business and handicraft households producing the products like plastic rattan, incense and planting mushroom.
The trade villages and handicraft facilities have created numerous branded qualified products gaining stable income such as Viet Lap chit broom, Chau Son rice noodle (Ngoc Chau commune), Y Thu rice noodle (Nha Nam town), Thanh Trung honey (Lien Son commune), Lam Cot mushroom, Banh gio (sticky rice cake with herbal ash) Song Van, Lien Chung soya source, Da Lien 5-flavour nutty ginger sticky rice bars (Ngoc Van commune), Danh Mountain gingseng flower bud (Viet Lap commune) and Ong Phu cinnamon waffle. The development of trade villages and handicraft industries has contributed to increasing the district’s industrial and handicraft production value at an annual value of over 6.5 trillion VND (267 million USD).

In coming years, Tan Yen district will strive to boost agricultural development and pay attention to developing handicraft industries to create jobs for rural labour, increase income and improve the people’s living standard.
According the Pham Van Dung, Deputy Head of the Finance and Planning Division, the district People’s Committee has directed to continue facilitating businesses, cooperatives and handicraft facilities and individuals in production development especially in the sectors suitable for the conditions and advantages of the locality.
Particularly, the district will pay attention to building technical infrastructure of the industrial clusters, trade villages and supporting in vocational training for labourers. Besides, they will encourage the production facilities and households to apply technologies to improve the product quality, establish trademark and increase competitive capacity. In addition, the district will actively implement digital transformation to seek and expand the market to bring the products go further.
