Bac Giang exploits value of key historical and cultural relics
Creating highlights
In May 2021, Prime Minister approved for the Plan to preserve and promote the value of national special relic Vinh Nghiem pagoda. According to the Decision for approval, it covers 40ha. The Plan includes major items of preserving original structure of main pagoda in its campus; adding utility building of Tam quan, Pho Quang tower, woodblock creating and sutra printing areas…

Viet Yen district now has 95 recognized relics, including two national special relics (Bo Da pagoda and Dong temple) and 19 national relics. In the period 2016 – 2020, the district restored 34 relics with total cost of nearly 200 billion VND.
Implementing the Project “Preserving and promoting cultural heritage of the peoples in Bac Giang province in period 2011 - 2020”, the authorities, competent agencies and localities have paid due attention to preserving and developing value of key relic sites. The province has more than 700 recognized relics, including key relic sites with due investment such as Vinh Nghiem pagoda (Yen Dung district), Bo Da pagoda (Viet Yen district), Xuong Giang Victory Site (Bac Giang city)…
Apart from historical and cultural values, these above mentioned relics have big potential to develop cultural and spiritual tourism. Thus, all localities always prioritize to preserve and tap the values by specifying in resolution, programme and plan in each period to enhance the cultural and spiritual life as well as boost up the socio-economy.
Improving value of the relics
Besides the key relics, the destinations on the side of Tay Yen Tu also receive due attention from local authorities and competent departments.

For recent years, Bac Giang has invested dozens of billion VND in preserving and restoring the relics, making proposal to recognize dozens of provincial and national relic sites, launching programme and scientific thesis about cultural life, relic sites, religious custom and belief in Tay Yen Tu area, conducting archaeological excavation to research about culture and history in Tay Yen Tu…
Notably, many educational activities about historical tradition at the key relics have been done to preserve the cultural heritage. The key relics create imprint on Bac Giang provincial tourism map and attract many visitors in and outside the province.
According to the Project to preserve and promote cultural heritage of the peoples in Bac Giang province, 190 to 215 historical and cultural relics in the province will be restored and preserved in the period 2021 – 2025 while two or three relics are recognized as national special ones by 2026 – 2030.
Relevant agencies have focused on completing the plan to preserve and restore the national special relic sites of Vinh Nghiem pagoda, Bo Da pagoda, Xuong Giang Victory site, Safety Area No.2 in Hiep Hoa… to mobilize sources to implement this task.
Vice Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Si Cam said: “The Department is cooperating to relevant agencies to consult the provincial People’s Council and Committee to issue more policies and mechanisms to implement the project which enhances the communication, introduction, promotion to raise the awareness and responsibility of all levels, sectors and community in preserving and promoting the relic value; accelerate socialization to mobilize social sources to restore and preserve the relics; manage and use the socialized capital transparently with proper purpose”.
