Bac Giang maintains 28,000 hectares of lychee cultivation in 2019

(BGO) – The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) in the northern province of Bac Giang has announced the plan of lychee production in 2019, covering  28,000 hectares with the expected output of 6 tonnes per hectare and total productivity of 168,000 tonnes of fruits.

The area includes 6,000 hectares of early ripen lychee cultivation yielding of 39,000 tonnes; 14,300 hectares of lychee growing under VietGAP standard with an output of more than 100,000 tonnes and 280 hectares of lychee growing under VietGAP that has been granted with the certificate.

Bac Giang province maintains 28,000 hectares of lychee cultivation in 2019.

Besides, the province strives to maintain 218 hectares of growing lychee under GlobalGAP standard with the estimated productivity of 7.5 tonnes per hectare and total quantity of 1,635 tonnes of fruits while instructing the production of 149 cultivation areas covering 16,085 hectares in the districts of Luc Ngan, Yen The and Tan Yen whose data were sufficiently provided so as to ensure the export condition to Chinese market.

To fulfill the set target, the Plant Production and Protection Division (under DARD) has chaired the collaboration with the relevant organizations, agencies and localities to focus on good management of plan without area expansion and intensive development to increase the productivity and quality in 2019. Meanwhile, the lychee cultivation area with low efficiency is encouraged to change to another higher value crop.

Additionally, the due attention should be paid to training the staff, Executive Board, Cooperatives and lychee growing farmers on production management, VietGAP and GlobalGAP lychee growing procedures, recommended list of plant protection product as well as disease control and prevention.

Also, it is necessary to enhance the caring technique and disease prevention methods to improve the flowering and fruit-bearing rates to ensure the productivity and quality for consumption in both domestic and foreign markets.

The farmers should expand the lychee growing under VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and prioritize using of organic and biofertilizers, plant protection products with bio-origin.

The local authority should build the support mechanism and policy to VietGAP and GlobalGAP lychee cultivation areas and to enterprises those enter the linkage of production organization and consumption of the VietGAP and GlobalGAP qualified fruits.

It is a must for the key districts in lychee growing to issue the support mechanism to encourage the establishment of chains linking production, preliminary processing, processing, package and consumption via contract.

Regarding the domestic market, it is necessary to strengthen the connection with enterprises specialized at production and consumption so as to create effective and stable sale channels, especially linking to supermarket systems of Saigon Co.op, Big C, Hapro to introduce the quality lychee early.

Apart from that, the traditional export market of China should be firmly maintained while increasing the export quantity to high demanding markets of EU, Singapore, Australia, USA, Canada, Japan and Korea among others with a focal point on exporting packed and processed lychee with high added value.

Bac Giang lychees present in 30 countries and territories
(BGO) – The lychee crop 2018 in Bac Giang province has ended successfully as the output reached more than 207,000 tonnes, the highest ever so far. Domestic consumption increased while export markets expanded to 30 countries and territories.

Bac Giang harvests over 202,000 tonnes of lychees
(BGO) – To date, Bac Giang province has consumed over 202,000 tonnes of lychees, increasing some 125,000 tonnes against the figure last year. Of which, 74,500 tonnes of the fruits were exported to several foreign markets, especially new markets of Russia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Netherlands among others.  
 
Increasing processed lychee volume, reducing consumption pressure
(BGO) - During the main harvest season, Bac Giang daily provides 10,000 tonnes of lychees for domestic consumption and export. In order to reduce fresh lychee consumption pressure, many businesses and households have stepped up processing to make lychee products more attractive, diverse and popular.
