At about 2:15pm on March 20, 2021, while working, Nguyen Thi Thom (born in 1984), a nurse from the hospital’s General Surgery Department, saw a bag left on the stairs by someone.

Thom brought the bag to the departments and rooms in the hospital to seek its owner, but no one claimed to own the property, so she opened the bag in a hospital room in the presence of patients.

After seeing that there were 5 yellow metal pieces labelled SJC 9999 and some other assets in the bag, she reported to her superiors for solutions. After consulting the hospital’s Director, the medical staff on duty reported the case to the police of Tan My commune where the hospital is located.

In addition to the five yellow metal pieces, there is also an OPPO phone with its charger, a used bus ticket from Giap Bat to Bac Giang, 825,000 VND, and a yellow amulet with a red thread...

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Diep, deputy head of the Bac Giang city Police, said that after receiving the information, the city Police investigated and defined that Nguyen Thi Nhung (born in 1957), residing at No.6, Phu Luu street, Dong Ngan ward, Tu Son town (Bac Ninh province) is the owner of these assets.

Accordingly, on the morning of March 20, 2021, Nhung took a bus from the bus station near Nhan Tho Pagoda, Tu Son town to the Bac Giang Oncology Hospital to take care of her ill father, bringing five gold taels obtained from her family’s selling of a land lot next to her house. On that day, she intended to sell the gold for a bank deposit, but since the bank was not working on Saturday, she had to bring the gold with her.

While sitting in the hospital room with her sick father, Nhung had a phone call, so she went out to listen and took the bag with the gold along. Being busy listening to the phone, she left the bag on the stairs and forgot it.

“I have not eaten and slept well every day because I thought I had lost all the gold. Now, receiving the gold, I and my relatives are very happy and grateful for the good deed of nurse Nguyen Thi Thom”, Nhung said emotionally. She also thanked the Bac Giang Oncology Hospital and the Bac Giang city Police for their assistance.

Hoang Truong Giang, Deputy Director of the Bac Giang Oncology Hospital, said that the hospital held a conference to commend the good and meaningful deed of nurse Nguyen Thi Thom, thereby encouraging other staff members to follow her example.

7 individuals honored as quiet bright exemplary model for community
