Bac Giang ramps up innovative campaigns to boost lychee sales at home and abroad
BAC GIANG – Facing a significant increase in lychee output this season, Bac Giang Province has launched a series of creative promotional and distribution initiatives, helping the fruit gain recognition among a broader base of domestic and international consumers.
Tourism-centered promotions widen reach
From June 21 to 28, the Bac Giang Department of Industry and Trade partnered with key agencies to roll out a campaign introducing Luc Ngan lychees in major tourism hubs including Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon and Ho Chi Minh City.

The initiative marks the first time the province has focused on leveraging tourist destinations to build brand awareness and connect lychee producers directly with consumers nationwide.
In these cities, promotional booths were set up in high-traffic areas of supermarkets, designed to be visually striking and offer hands-on experiences. At MM Mega Market An Phu in Ho Chi Minh City, long queues formed as customers waited to purchase the specialty fruit.
Similar excitement was observed in Quy Nhon and Da Nang, where weekend events such as lychee-eating contests and fresh tasting sessions attracted large crowds of both locals and tourists.
“I tried fresh Luc Ngan lychees for the first time today—it was fantastic,” said Nguyen Thi Huong, a resident of Quy Nhon. “I bought several kilos to enjoy and gift to relatives.”
In a notable expansion of its domestic marketing efforts, Bac Giang also introduced lychee kiosks at industrial parks such as Van Trung and Hoa Phu, as well as in large apartment complexes and residential areas in major urban centers.
These locations are designed to target the urban workforce and middle-class families—demographics with strong purchasing power and limited time to visit traditional markets.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, this is a practical and innovative move to diversify lychee distribution channels and meet consumers where they are. It has helped increase visibility for Luc Ngan lychees across Vietnam and boosted consumption during the peak harvest window.
As the 2025 season progresses, Bac Giang is entering peak harvest with optimism and determination to further establish the Luc Ngan lychee brand in both domestic and international markets. Total output this year is expected to reach nearly 200,000 tonnes.
Thanks to strict adherence to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, fruit quality has improved markedly—lychees are more uniform in appearance, sweeter in flavor, and safer for consumption.
As of June 23, more than 70,000 tonnes of lychee were harvested and sold. Over 80% of this output was absorbed by the domestic market through traditional wholesale networks, modern retail channels and large supermarket systems.
Early in the season, Bac Giang launched a series of trade promotion campaigns, supply-demand matchmaking events, and marketing support for both local and export markets. A highlight is the province’s flagship event, “Luc Ngan Lychee Week – Proudly Vietnamese Produce”, taking place from June 27 to July 3.
As part of this event, the Department of Industry and Trade connected cooperatives and growers whose products meet export standards and are certified for Japan's designated geographical indication system, as well as those with VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic credentials.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment provided technical guidance on harvesting, sorting, packaging, and cold storage to meet hygiene and export quality requirements.
E-commerce platforms are also playing a growing role. TikTok Vietnam and Sendo Farm have partnered with the province to bring Luc Ngan lychees to online supermarkets and livestream platforms, helping the product reach younger consumers and tech-savvy shoppers across the country.
Synchronous support
Bac Giang has also intensified efforts to penetrate international markets including China, Japan, the United States, Europe, Canada, and Australia.
A major breakthrough this year came when Vifoco Import-Export JSC successfully shipped approximately 60 tonnes of lychees to the U.S. via sea freight—an important milestone in reaching one of the world’s most demanding markets.
Nguyen Xuan Viet, Director of Vifoco, said the fruit was preserved using modern cold-chain technology, allowing lychees to retain freshness over long transit times and ensuring they arrived in peak condition.
Meanwhile, a provincial trade delegation touring Europe met with Vietnamese diplomatic missions to showcase lychees and gauge demand.
The events garnered positive feedback from overseas consumers, according to La Van Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade.
“Luc Ngan lychees are well-received thanks to their excellent quality, appearance, and traceability,” he said. “There’s great potential for export expansion.”
Back home, the lychee harvest has become a hive of activity across key growing areas. Hundreds of weighing stations are in operation, supported by local officials, cooperatives, and farmer groups. Provincial authorities have mobilized the entire political apparatus to ensure smooth harvesting, logistics, and distribution.
Efforts to protect the product’s reputation and brand integrity have also been ramped up, with media campaigns focused on quality assurance and origin traceability. This has created favorable conditions for Vietnamese and foreign traders to visit, evaluate, and finalize orders.
With a coordinated, innovative, and market-oriented approach, Bac Giang’s lychee season is expected to be both abundant and profitable, delivering tangible benefits to farmers and reinforcing the province’s role as a national leader in high-quality fruit production.
