At the meeting, a representative of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that in 2021, the weather is favorable for lychee to grow and develop. This year, the total lychee area in the province is over 28,000 hectares, with output estimated at 180,000 tonnes.

Of which, the lychee area under VietGAP standard is 15,200 hectares, with an estimated output of 125,000 tonnes; while the area under GlobalGAP standard is 82 hectares. The lychee production area for export to the US and Australia is 218 hectares, with an estimated output of 1,800 tonnes; and the area of producing lychees for export to the Japanese market is 219.4 ha, with output estimated at 1,800 tonnes. Bac Giang lychees will be harvested from May 31 to July 10. The lychee production process ensures the products qualified for consumption in all markets.

This year, the group accepts to sell products at a lower price than that it pays for farmers, and will offer preferential programmes to buyers (buy 2 get 1). On this occasion, she wished Bac Giang would introduce some other cooperatives that can ensure quality supply for the group.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong thanked Central Retail Group’s goodwill towards the consumption of Bac Giang fruits, particularly lychee. Bac Giang is making every effort to take measures to prevent and control Covid-19 with the dual goal of both combating the pandemic and boosting socio-economic development.

He emphasized that, along with policies, Bac Giang has persistently persuaded farmers to work towards high-value agricultural production. Thanks to this, their perceptions have changed markedly. They have actively applied strict standards to create clean agricultural products.

Lychee products have been successfully exported to the Japanese market - one of the most demanding markets in the world. In addition to exports, Bac Giang also focuses on the domestic market and wants the fruit to enter the retail chains nationwide. Duong suggested that this year, Central Retail Group increase the volume of lychees it buys from farmers and continue to accompany the province in bringing the fruit to consumers in the fastest and most convenient way.
