Bac Giang to hold 1st Then singing and Tinh gourd lute Festival in November
This is a provincial-level festival with participation of 5 districts which are preserving and practicing Then singing and Tinh gourd lute including Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, Yen The and Lang Giang.

Each district will establish a delegation including 20 to 30 participants who are artisans, actors, actresses and instrumentalists belonging to the Tay and Nung ethnic groups. Each delegation will build one programme for about 30 to 40 minutes containing Then singing performances (both old and modern styles) including solo, duet, trio and group singing, musical concerts consisting of solo performance, duet performance and orchestra and dances.
The festival will take place in mid- November 2023 at Bac Giang Labour Cultural House (No 68, Le Hong Phong road, Xuong Giang ward, Bac Giang city).
Then singing and Tinh gourd lute performances are included in the National Action Programme to protect and promote values of the intangible cultural heritage “Practices of Then by Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in Vietnam” recognized by UNESCO as an intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019.
The 1st Then singing and Tinh gourd lute Festival in Bac Giang province is held to implement the contents of the National Action Programme; thereby raising awareness of the levels, sectors and community in preserving and promoting values of the intangible cultural heritages particularly the Then singing and Tinh gourd lute of Tay and Nung ethnic groups in Bac Giang province.
