Bac Giang youth look towards the frontier

Updated: 18:22, 22/04/2019
(BGO) - From a writing competition on the social network to a field trip to the Dam Thuy Border Guard Station in Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district (Cao Bang province), many youth union members of Bac Giang province have had memorable memories. The trip, organized by the provincial Youth Union, was one of the activities showing innovations in educating revolutionary ideals and historical traditions for young people.

Memorable memories

Walking, climbing and crossing the forest in Na Deng village, Dam Thuy commune for more than 1 hour, the delegation reached border marker 826. One side is the cliff and the other is the deep chasm.

The road was slippery because of the first rain in the season, making everyone move very hard. The trip gave young people a lot of emotions and helped them understand more about the silent work of the border guards.

Among the 60 border markers that the Dam Thuy Border Guard Station is responsible for managing and protecting, border markers 824, 825 (1), 825, 828, 829 are located in vertical terrain. We have to “crawl” "inch by inch if we want to reach them. The rugged terrain causes many difficulties for border patrol work.

At the border markers patrolled, the youth union members were clarified by Lieutenant Tran Tuan Ngoc and Lieutenant Lang Minh Khoi on the meaning of border marker planting to assert sovereignty. They listened to the soldiers sharing their difficulties, hardships and memories of border safeguarding work.

The Dam Thuy Border Guard Station has nearly 100 officers and soldiers responsible for protecting 60 border markers from 814 to column 837 (2). In addition to patrolling and safeguarding the border, the unit also disseminates knowledge on protecting the national sovereignty for the people and students, and implements activities to keep local security and promote external relations with localities of the neighbouring country.

This experience activity was part of a political thought education programme themed "Thinking of the national border" organized by the Bac Giang provincial Youth Union. The contest responded to the campaign "Towards the border, seas and islands" in the 2018-2022 period launched by the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union Central Committee; and celebrated the 40th anniversary of the struggle to defend the northern border.

The contest, launched on the social network in the beginning of 2019, attracted nearly 2,200 youth union members and received millions of likes, interactions, and sharing. The organizers selected 10 youth union members with the most excellent articles to attend the experience programme in the border province of Cao Bang. The first prize was given to Dao Thi Thu, Secretary of the March 26 Youth Union (Viet Yen district). In addition, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 4 consolation prizes were awarded.

Give love, receive love

Three days of experience at the Dam Thuy Border Guard Station, Dam Thuy commune, youth union members ate and stayed together with soldiers; participated in production activities; joined border patrols and cultural exchanges, and disseminated revolutionary songs; visited and presented gifts to heroic Vietnamese Mother Nong Thi Tung (born in 1928), a Tay ethnic in Gun - Khuoi Ky village, Dam Thuy commune.

On this occasion, the provincial Youth Union presented more than 2,300 national flags to local schools, border posts, agencies and households; 6,000 notebooks, books, newspapers and magazines to disadvantaged students at three schools: Po Tau Secondary School, Dam Thuy Secondary School, and Dam Thuy Primary School in Trung Khanh district.
