Bac Giang’s 2019 economic growth estimated at 16.2 percent, ranking second nationwide

A report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan of Bac Giang province in 2019 as well as key objectives, tasks and solutions for 2020 presented by Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lai Thanh Son stated that in the context of complicated global developments and the domestic socio-economic situation facing difficulties such as natural disasters and epidemics that greatly affected production and people’s life, with the consensus and determination of agencies at all levels, sectors, business community and people, the province's socio-economic performance in 2019 has recorded many outstanding results, with comprehensive development.

In 2019, the province had eight criteria meeting the targets set by the 18th provincial Party Congress and in the Resolution of the provincial People's Council for the 2016-2020 period. In particular, Its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) is estimated at 16.2 percent, ranking second nationwide, after Hai Phong city, at 16.8 percent.
The GRDP increased by 19 percent, estimated at 108,915 billion VND, or 4.7 billion USD, ranking 18th out of 63 provinces and cities. The GRDP per capita was projected at 2,620 USD per year, up 13.9 percent compared to 2018.
The province has 114 communes meeting the new-style rural area standards, accounting for 55.9 percent, an increase of 25 communes compared to 2018. The province’s state budget revenue was estimated at 11,060 billion VND (over two times higher than the target set by the 18th provincial Party Congress), increasing 15 percent and exceeding the estimate by 35.6 percent.

Total social development investment capital was 53,795 billion VND, up 24 percent and surpassing the plan by 7 percent.
The fields of education, training and people's health care have seen progress. The rate of poor households continued declined sharply, expected at 5.05 percent this year.
Striving to fulfill goals
Regarding the 2020 socio-economic development plan, the provincial People's Committee set out 17 key targets, including GRDP growth rate of 17.1 percent, GRDP per capita of 3,025 USD per year; budget revenue of 10,195 billion VND; export value of 9.5 billion USD and import of 9.2 billion USD.
Production value per ha of agricultural land is set to reach 110 million VND; urban population will account for about 22.2 percent; tourists will number more than 2.5 million; while the percentage of communes meeting new-style rural area standards is projected at 67.2 percent (23 more communes to be recongised as new-style rural areas).
The rate of schools satisfying national standards will be 93.2 percent; poor household rate is expected to fall to 3.5 percent. There will be 31,000 newly employed workers and the proportion of trained workers will reach 70 percent...

In order to achieve these targets, the provincial People's Committee has launched nine main tasks and solutions such as focusing on improving the quality of planning work; renovating economic development model, improving growth quality, and focusing on supporting and promoting the development of production and service sectors; improving the business investment environment and the quality of investment attraction, and facilitating the development of economic sectors; speeding up budget collection, mobilizing and effectively using resources for infrastructure development; raising the efficiency of management of natural resources and minerals, protecting the environment, and promoting scientific and technological development; comprehensively developing the socio-cultural fields, improving the quality of human resources, creating jobs, and ensuring social security.
The provincial People's Committee determines that besides the advantages, the performance of socio-economic development tasks will face challenges, requiring agencies at all levels, sectors, business community and people of all ethnic groups across the province to continue making more efforts to overcome difficulties, and strive to accomplish the goals for 2020 and the whole period of 2016-2020, creating a favorable premise for the province to enter the new period of 2021-2025.
