Bo Da pagoda recognized as provincial tourism site

(BGO) – The People’s Committee in Viet Yen district, Bac Giang province on January 29 (lunar January 5) organized a ceremony to open the exhibition and display of the Woodblock in Bo Da pagoda and announce the decision from the provincial People’s Committee to recognize the pagoda as the provincial tourism site.  

Addressing at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee Nguyen Dai Luong expressed Bo Da is the famous ancient pagoda in the old Kinh Bac region which was the training center for the monks under Lam Te Zen Buddhism and now preserves the unique traditional architect value of Vietnamese people.

Representatives cut the ribbon to open the exhibition of “Bo Da pagoda’s woodblocks”.

The pagoda is located on the sacred land in Bo Da range that was closely attached to the legend of a woodman and the Bodhisattva presenting to save the life.

The pagoda consists of major architecture like Tu An pagoda, Tam Duc temple, Cao pagoda, Tower garden and Mieu pond in which the tower garden features more than 100 Buddhism towers preserving the sarira of 1,214 monks in

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong hands over the decision to recognize Bo Da pagoda as the tourism site to the leaders of Viet Yen district and pagoda.

Lam Te Zen Buddhism and is recognized the biggest tower garden in Vietnam.

Particularly, the woodblocks in Bo Da pagoda and other documents were engraved by the Lam Te Zen Buddhism’s masters in the Le dynasty - Canh Hung era (1740-1786) and later generation. The huge Sutra woodblocks were carved with the official message used in the pagoda rituals.

The carved woodblocks reflect profound thoughts and philosophies of Buddhism in general and the Lam Te Zen Buddhism in particular.

Bo Da pagoda is now preserving nearly 2,000 woodblocks which were named national treasures in 2018.

The exhibition and showcase of “Bo Da pagoda’s woodblocks” is among the activities under the 2020 Culture – Tourism Week in Bac Giang province as well as to celebrate the 300th founding anniversary of Tung Lam Bo Da (1720-2020) and 200 years of the establishment of Viet Yen district (1820-2020).
