Accordingly, the first volume chronicles the revolutionary life of Kiet from the Nam Ky (Southern) Uprising in 1940, to the success of Vietnam’s resistance war against French colonialists and the signing of the Geneva Agreement in 1954.

The second and third volumes review Kiet’s activities during the national resistance war against the US (1954-1975), and from National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975) until his retirement in 2001.

The draft of the book was completed in 2005. It was written based on Kiet’s narration by the author. The content of the book was then commented on and edited by Kiet himself.
