Closely monitoring pandemic in schools

Updated: 18:07, 13/01/2022
(BGO) - After more than a week of hiatus due to complicated outbreaks in schools, on January 10, schools in Bac Giang city (Bac Giang province) reopened. Strictly implementing anti-pandemic measures to maintain stable teaching and learning activities is a top priority task for schools.

Assessing risks, applying distancing measures

Since the beginning of January, the Le Hong Phong Primary School (Tran Nguyen Han ward) has detected 19 Covid-19 cases. After zoning off affected areas and implementing epidemic control measures, the school continues to welcome students back. To ensure safety, it organizes cleaning, disinfection and testing for all teachers and students before reopening.

Nguyen Thi Tan, Principal of the school, said currently, a number of classes that are not at risk have resumed face-to-face learning but are divided to limit crowding and ensure distancing. School meals are not provided. The remaining classes are taught online.

At present, the infection chain in the school are basically under control, Bac Giang city's Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control allowed schools to continue to welcome students back from January 10 when ensuring safety conditions.

Units in collaboration with students' parents, community Covid-19 team, health authorities, pandemic control steering committees of wards and communes divided students into three groups, including the group of classes with students as F0s and F1s; the group of classes with students at risk of infection; and the group of classes not at risk. Accordingly, schools only allow students of the third group to attend face-to-face learning again.

On January 11, in addition to the Ngo Si Lien Primary School, schools in the city welcomed students back, with face-to-face teaching for classes that ensure safety against the epidemic, and the rest are still taught online. Educational activities have gradually stabilized.

Focusing on definitively handling outbreaks

The Covid-19 outbreaks in schools have forced all students in the city to temporarily stop going to school in the first days of January. In particular, the Ngo Si Lien Primary School has more than 190 students (in 18 classes) and four teachers infected with the virus. Some classes have up to half of the students becoming F0s. From this outbreak, many schools have recorded students infected with the novel coronavirus. Some parents then contracted the disease.

The committee urgently activates a facility for treating patients with mild symptoms at the Dong Son Primary School. With an effort to cover vaccines, especially for students, currently, more than 95 percent of adolescents aged 15-17 years old and over 92 percent of children aged 12-14 have got the second dose.

According to Nguyen Huu Dinh, Vice Chairman of the city People's Committee, the municipal Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has focused on controlling and completely handling this outbreak as well as preventing new outbreaks.

At the same time, the committee should urgently activate a facility for treating patients with mild symptoms at the Dong Son Primary School. With an effort to cover vaccines, especially for students, currently, more than 95 percent of adolescents aged 15-17 years old and over 92 percent of children aged 12-14 have got the second dose.

Do Van Quy, head of the city Division of Education and Training, said that the unit has directed primary schools to base on their actual conditions to proactively arrange classes to ensure distancing, minimising the number of students in each class.

Secondary schools were urged to organize the first semester examination for students who have not attended school due to the epidemic in face-to-face or online form, which will be completed before January 15. Teachers must remind students to seriously follow ‘one route, two destinations’.

The division has established working groups to constantly inspect and remind schools of pandemic prevention and control work. The city's competent forces continue to review the number of officials, teachers, employees and students aged 12 and over at educational institutions in the locality to speed up the vaccination for all eligible people as well as organize the injection of second and third doses.

Along with the activities of competent forces, educational institutions and people, especially parents and students, need to raise awareness and strictly abide by anti-epidemic regulations, contributing to controlling and repelling the pandemic, making educational activities stable and students’ learning at school safe.
