Coracle art a new treat for visitors in Quang Nam

Updated: 09:23, 14/06/2019
More than 200 coracles and paddles covered with colourful paintings are on display along Tam Thanh beach in Tam Ky city, the central province of Quang Nam, starting June 13.

Paintings on the familiar tools of local fishermen were made by artists from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Nam. They reflect the painters’ feelings for the land and its culture, as well as fishermen’s life.

Vice Chairman of the Tam Ky People’s Committee Nguyen Minh Nam said the items are exhibited as part of the Tam Ky sea tourism festival 2019.

After the festival, they will be preserved at the communal house of the Tam Thanh fishing village, he noted, adding that new items will be added to the collection annually serving the local community-based tourism.

Tam Thanh has been launched as a community-based art space for eco-tourism development. It is also the first place in Vietnam that makes mural paintings part of community lifestyle.

The fishing village, housing a population of 6,000 and a tranquil environment, is known nationwide and by foreign tourists for the mural paintings on the walls of local houses. It attracts thousands of visitors on an annual basis.
