Farmers’ assistants
Farmer Hoang Dinh Que in Quynh Son village, Quynh Son commune, Yen Dung district - Bac Giang’s Outstanding Citizen in 2022 is no longer strange to many people. Every year, he raises thousands of pigs under a biosafety, closed-loop technology process. When raising livestock on a large scale, in addition to economic efficiency, environmental issues are his top concern.

A few years ago, he invested in buying machinery to raise livestock under a modern, circular, biosafety technology process that can monitor and care for livestock remotely. Just press the control button, he can feed and bathe his pigs. Waste from livestock is also used as food for earthworms.
At the 10th Farmer Technical Innovation Competition (2022-2023) recently organized by the provincial Farmers' Association, Que won the first prize with the solution "Managing waste in pig farms in a circular manner, bringing in high economic efficiency".
In Xuan Minh village, Huong Mai commune, Viet Yen district, many people call farmer Nguyen Van Thuy a "barefoot engineer". Thuy has a small body with hands turning black with engine oils as he works with mechanical machines every day. He said his father taught him mechanical engineering when he was 15 years old. At the age of 25, he started opening a workshop specializing in processing machinery for agricultural production.

While repairing the HD plow pan of a Japanese plow, he discovered that this part was too long but narrow, so when operating, it often lost balance. After a period of research and testing, he improved the frame of the plow pan. Thuy's HD plowing pan is multi-purpose, highly efficient, and reasonably priced, so many customers inside and outside the province ordered it.
With the above initiative, at the recent 10th Farmer Technical Innovation Contest, Thuy's solution was awarded the second prize.
Creating a boost to creative activities
The Farmer Technical Innovation Contest is held every two years. Each year, the Organizing Committee receives 35-45 solutions and initiatives. At the 10th edition, there were initiatives in many fields such as farming, animal husbandry, environmental protection, agricultural mechanics and agricultural product processing. Most ideas came from production practices, with many highly applicable.
However, the actual application of some solutions in previous years showed that due to many reasons, over time they are no longer suitable and effective.

According to La Van Doan, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial Farmers' Association, to make the research and creative activities of members and farmers more practical and effective, in the coming time, the association’s chapters at all levels will continue to disseminate the purpose, meaning, and positive impact of the competition; encourage members and farmers to actively participate in implementing solutions and initiatives that are sustainable, long-term, highly replicable, and environmentally friendly.
For award-winning solutions and initiatives, authors are encouraged to continue to improve and fix shortcomings over time to perfect their products, facilitating the widespread application.
However, funding is still a difficult problem. To solve this, the association’s chapters at all levels and local authorities have attempted to mobilize more resources to support the organization of the contest and partially assist authors in perfecting their products.
