Earning higher stars for OCOP products
Promoting startup movement
The OCOP programme has been implemented in the province since the end of 2018. Thanks to promoting the dissemination of its purpose and meaning, guidance and timely support, the programme has attracted more and more participants.

The province now has 155 OCOP products, including 36 4-star and 119 3-star ones. Bac Giang is currently among the top provinces and cities in the country in terms of OCOP products (ranking 2nd in the northern mountainous region, after Ha Giang, and 7th in the whole country). Some localities that have effectively implemented this programme are Tan Yen, Viet Yen and Yen The.
According to the relevant agencies, the OCOP programme has created a far-reaching startup movement in the localities. Specifically, 85 establishments have OCOP products evaluated and classified, of which 88.2 percent are cooperatives and enterprises, and 11.8 percent households. The Yen The Green Agriculture Cooperative is an example. Established in 2017, it operates in the field of preliminary processing and processing of poultry, with its main products being vacuum-cleaned chicken, chicken sausages and paste.
In fact, the products, after participating in the OCOP programme, have developed well and have seen marked changes in quality and design, meeting market requirements. Many products have entered supermarkets and large stores, contributing to adding value and helping producers increase revenue. Currently, more than 60 percent of establishments having OCOP products with 3 stars or higher enjoy an average revenue growth of more than 15 percent per year.
Upgrading products
The effectiveness of the programme over the years is remarkable, but the development of OCOP products still has certain limitations. To fix them, in 2022, the agriculture sector will continue promoting the OCOP programme, gradually improving product quality in line with domestic and international standards; strictly manage and upgrade the products that have been rated; and linking the programme with the development of rural industries and rural tourism.

The set goals are to have 25-30 more products recognised as OCOP products of 3 stars or more, raising the total to at least 180 products; earn higher stars for 5-10 products; strive to build and develop at least one national 5-star product; and select at least one rural tourism product and service to gradually build a community tourism OCOP product...
Based on that orientation, the establishments have actively participated in the programme and planned to earn higher stars for some products. Le Ba Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the department will focus on raising awareness and changing mindset of economic organizations in rural areas, state management agencies, distributors and consumers; diversify forms of communication and promptly report existing difficulties, obstacles and inadequacies in the implementation of the OCOP programme in localities.
It will promote training, consultation and guiding activities, support the perfection of products in terms of packaging, labels, brands, and product profiles for establishments whose OCOP products have been rated as 3 stars or more and manufacturers with products participating in the programme in 2022…
The department plans to review and select products associated with local advantages and strengths, prioritizing processed products, traditional products, and rural tourism products; build and complete the chains linking production with product consumption in order to improve the quality of OCOP products, meeting the increasing requirements of the market; promote trade promotion activities, helping OCOP producers promote, introduce and sell products, find distributors and expand markets...
