The ceremony saw parents from France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, Spain and Sweden collect the children, of whom 31 live in HCMC, according to the government’s news portal.

At the event, Minister Mai Luong Khoi thanked all adoptive parents for having traveled a long way to Vietnam despite the complicated pandemic situation across the world.

Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Pilar Méndez Jiménez said this is an opportunity for countries to strengthen cooperation, and that the children would be the bridge to unite nations for mutual development.

Representing parents at the ceremony, Sampol Agnes from France said the adoptive parents would do the best they could to raise and educate the children so they could develop to the fullest, both physically and mentally.

She added they are committed to submitting full reports on the children’s development to the Justice Ministry and when conditions allow, take the children back to Vietnam to visit their homeland, Phap Luat newspaper reported.

This is the second time the ministry has organized a program for foreign parents to adopt Vietnamese children.

The first time last November had seen 36 European families adopt 37 Vietnamese children.
