At the press conference in Hanoi on October 11.

This information was announced by Director of Goethe Institute Vietnam Wilfried Eckstein at the press conference in Hanoi on October 11.

According to the director, the European Day of Language was initiated by Council of Europe and is now organised by the European Union National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC) every year. “This year’s participants include the Aula Cervantes and the British Council, as well as embassies of France, Italy, Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegation, and the Goethe-Institute Vietnam,” he added.

This year’s European Day of Language will celebrate the diversity of the national languages of participating European countries and promote multilingualism.

In the morning, representatives of the six EUNIC institutions and the Ministry of Education and Training will highlight opportunities and challenges for schools in Vietnam to enhance international contact. Best practice examples and experiences shall be presented and discussed by lecturers, teachers and official representatives.

For the afternoon session, the participating institutions will present their respective languages and countries. Taster classes will be offered to enable participants to learn a few words and communicate in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Brief, fun sessions lasting 30 minutes each are scheduled for the entire afternoon. The diversity of European culture will be featured in selected short documentary films to be screened in the hall of the Goethe-Institut.

At the event, and for the first time ever in Hanoi, ‘Speak-dating’ is offered, a format to help people get in touch with different languages instantly.

There will also be a quiz offering attractive prizes for the lucky winners, such as scholarships for intensive language courses, but also t-shirts, caps, books, and much more, according to Director Wilfried Eckstein.

The 7th European Day of Language offers a unique opportunity for all those interested in language, culture, international exchange and experience, a chance to partake in a multi-lingual environment and the enjoyment of a colourful day full of interesting input and exchange.

No registration is required for the afternoon Festival of Languages. Entrance to all events is free.
