Experiential tourism in Chu township appealing to visitors

Updated: 18:33, 13/05/2025

BAC GIANG – As one of Vietnam’s largest fruit-growing regions, famous for lush orchards of lychee, oranges, and pomelos, Chu township in Bac Giang province holds great potential for tourism development. As this year's lychee crop is expected to be bountiful, local authorities, travel agencies, and orchard owners have proactively prepared various programmes, tours, and tourism routes to welcome visitors for sightseeing and hands-on experiences.

Enterprises, cooperatives ready to welcome visitors

Though only established in July 2024, Windy Hills Homestay, managed by Homesmart Investment and Service Development Co., Ltd. in Cau Den residential area, Thanh Hai ward, has already attracted a large number of tourists from both inside and outside the province.

Tourists paddle boats on Bau Tien Lake in Quy Son commune, Chu township.

The business has developed an attractive entertainment service system in an area located on a high hill, surrounded by vast lychee orchards cultivated under VietGAP standards to ensure food safety.

With entrance tickets priced at 20,000 VND (0.77 USD) for children and 40,000 VND for adults, visitors can tour the expansive orchards and, during harvest season, experience fruit picking firsthand; enjoy swimming; and sample traditional local dishes. Notably, family and group accommodations are available, with capacity for 30–45 guests per night.

Tran Thi Nhung, head of the township Division of Culture, Science, and Information, shared that in addition to orchards, the area is home to many historical and scenic sites such as Khanh Van Temple, Ha Temple, Am Vai Pagoda, and lakes like Khuon Than and Bau Lay, offering pristine and captivating landscapes.

Capitalising on these strengths, local authorities have focused on promoting agricultural products alongside experiential tourism. Fruit-season tours are becoming more professional, attracting increasing numbers of visitors.

Diverse tourism offerings

Windy Hills Homestay prepares to welcome guests for the lychee season.

Since the administrative restructuring of former Luc Ngan district, Chu township has maintained and continued to develop its tourism activities.

From the beginning of the year, the locality has welcomed around 170,000 visitors coming to explore, enjoy local culture, and experience the local natural beauty and lifestyle.

Revenue is estimated to reach nearly 20 billion VND (770,565 USD), and the number of tourists is expected to rise further during the upcoming lychee season.

Chu is home to more than 7,100 hectares of lychee trees, with this year’s crop forecast to be abundant. Preparations for the lychee tourism season are currently being accelerated by local authorities, residents, and businesses.

According to Nguyen Van Manh, Vice Chairman of the township People’s Committee, to attract more visitors, the locality is focusing on promoting and stimulating tourism in 2025 through various activities such as organising seasonal tourism programmes (lychee blossom season, lychee harvest season, orange and pomelo seasons).

From May to July, efforts will centre on connecting with travel agencies to organise lychee-picking tours. The township will also participate in fairs and promotional events to boost lychee consumption and tourism organized by the province and related departments.

Aligning with the township’s direction, specialised agencies are surveying and compiling a list of cooperatives and beautiful orchards that follow VietGAP, GlobalGAP, or organic standards, with convenient access and hospitable hosts to develop into tourism destinations and tour routes.

Training programmes are being held to equip orchard owners, cooperatives, and accommodation providers with the skills needed for experiential tourism, along with commitments to offer attentive, professional service and leave a positive impression on visitors.

The township is also considering organising sports tournaments, forums, competitions, and performances associated with the fruit-growing region.

At the same time, it is coordinating with media agencies to produce videos, clips, and images to promote tourism and spread the image of Chu township. Emphasis is being placed on digital tools for tourism promotion and marketing.
