Female footballers go home after concluding historic journey at 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup

The Vietnamese women’s national football team returned home on August 3 after concluding their historic journey at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Although the Vietnamese team finished bottom of their group, after losing three games against the US, Portugal and the Netherlands, they have always received attention, support and encouragement from domestic football fans, overseas Vietnamese, as well as international fans.

After landing at Noi Bai international airport, head coach Mai Duc Chung said, that he was surprised at the enthusiastic welcome of football fans to the team, and conveyed his sincere thanks for their support to his team.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese female footballers gained remarkable experience at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

He also acknowledged the gap between the Vietnamese women’s national football team and other world-leading women’s teams, competing in the championship.

He pledged to stand side by side with his team to make a stronger determination and gain more success at the upcoming ASIAD 19 and the qualification round of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

For the efforts of the Vietnamese players, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) awarded them a total bonus of VNĐ1.8 billion (US$75,600)

VFF Chairman Tran Quoc Tuan said: “The team didn't need to win games to get the reward. Most importantly, the efforts of each person, each player and the whole team are recognised by many people.

In addition, each team member will receive up to 30,000 USD from FIFA.

After the World Cup, the Vietnamese players will have a week off, before regrouping on August 10, ahead of the Asian Games 19 in Hangzhou, China in September and the Paris Olympic qualifiers.
