Festival aims to elevate brand of Yen The hill chicken
BAC GIANG - Relevant units in Yen The district, Bac Giang province are actively implementing various tasks in preparation for the first festival promoting the sale of Yen The hill chicken and other local signature products.
The festival will take place on October 26-27, at the Yen The Uprising Special National Historical Site. This marks the first time the district has organized a festival dedicated to its hill chicken and other specialties.

For the first time, the district People’s Committee will host a contest for beautiful pairs of chickens, a cooking competition featuring hill chicken dishes, and a competition for booths showcasing agro-forestry and handicraft products. Notably, a workshop focused on Yen The hill chicken will be held to seek ways to address challenges facing local farmers in production and sale.
In Dong Tam commune, which boasts the largest chicken population in the district (around 150,000 heads), local authorities and organizations have embarked on preparations early. The commune has identified key products for display and promotion at the festival, including vacuum-packed fresh chicken, chicken sausages, chicken paste, dried lychee, and turmeric starch.
To ensure quality entries for the chicken contest, four months ago, local authorities selected 10 four-month-old chickens (three roosters and seven hens) and assigned an experienced farmer to care for them.
Similarly, the People’s Committee of Hong Ky commune has formed teams to participate in the various competitions and designated responsibilities to agencies.
As the host of the festival, the authorities of Phon Xuong town are coordinating with the district’s specialized agencies to prepare the venues and facilities, and devise plans for maintaining public order and food safety throughout the event.
Right at the beginning of the 2020-2025 term, the district Party Committee issued a resolution on promoting sustainable agricultural development, focusing on maintaining the chicken population and effectively developing the certified Yen The hill chicken brand.
Currently, Yen The has approximately 400 households raising 500 to 1,000 chickens per batch, 650 families 1,000 to 2,000 heads, and 750 households over 2,000 chickens. Annually, the district sells over 10 million chickens worth more than 1.6 trillion VND (63.58 million USD).
This festival is seen as an opportunity to introduce the Yen The hill chicken brand to more groups of customers, promoting the district’s signature products. Alongside infrastructure preparations and product selection for display, local authorities are also stepping up the dissemination of the event to the public.
Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee Nguyen Van Tuyen stated that the district expects to welcome over 10,000 visitors during the two-day festival, who will come to enjoy chicken dishes and other products. To ensure their safety, the district has arranged traffic management and security personnel, and established an inspection team for food safety.
