Good deed to care for national contributors and social policy families

Updated: 19:05, 16/07/2024

BAC GIANG - On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day July 27 (1947-2024), the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs chaired and cooperated with the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, Nhan Dan Newspaper and Hanoi City People's Committee to launch an event to praise outstanding people with meritorious services in national revolutions in 2024.

The event with many activities will take place in Hanoi from July 21 – 23. Among the 295 participating soldiers and relatives of typical martyrs nationwide, there are 4 members from Bac Giang province, including soldier Ha Van Thinh (born 1930) in Han village, Huong Gian commune (Yen Dung district); 88% wounded soldier Nguyen Tien Binh (born 1945) in Dam Chuc village, Tan Soi commune (Yen The district); 81% wounded soldier Nguyen Duc Duong (born 1960) in Yen Khe village, Song Khe commune (Bac Giang city) and Duong Quang Thinh (born 1952), a victim of toxic chemical poisoning suffering from 71% loss of health in Lieu Ngan village, Hoang Van commune (Hiep Hoa district).

Bui Quang Phat, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (second from left) presents gift to Bac Giang wounded soldiers under caring at Nho Quan Invalid Nursing Center.

Despite their old age and high injury rate, which greatly affects their daily life and work, these national contributors always overcome difficulties, set exemplary in life, actively participate in social activities and contribute to building their homeland.

Since early this year, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has completed procedures and issued monthly allowances for 34 resistance activists infected with toxic chemicals. Thus, Bac Giang province currently has nearly 7,200 victims of Agent Orange receiving allowances, including 5,400 direct victims and the rest of indirect victims (2nd generation). There are also about 500 third generation victims who are being verified.

To help these victims, the Provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange mobilizes organizations and individuals to donate to the fund. On average each year, with a total budget of about 7 billion VND (cash and kind), the Association supports families of difficult victims to renovate their houses, subsidize vocational training and present wheelchairs to members.
