Impressive art performance opens Dong Da Festival
For the first time, the opening ceremony of the Dong Da Festival, which commemorates the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da Victory, was held in the evening, featuring a spectacular programme that vividly recreated Emperor Quang Trung’s victory over the Chinese Qing forces.
Speaking at the event on February 2, Dong Da Chairman Le Tuan Dinh emphasised that the victory stands as a testament to the Vietnamese people’s tradition of patriotism and love for independence, serving as a heroic epic in national history.

Following the opening ceremony, visitors to the festival enjoyed a semi-theatrical performance with the participation of hundreds of professional and amateur performers.
The stage was continuously transformed, vividly recreating the historical context of the late 18th century, and depicting the people’s suffering during the Qing invasion, the role of the Tay Son Dynasty and the hero Quang Trung, and the fierce fighting spirit of the Tay Son army.
The programme honoured Emperor Quang Trung’s achievements through performances incorporating the latest technology, including 3D mapping that provided viewers with impressive visual experiences and brought the historical narrative to life through all senses.
Viewers were transported back in time to witness the thundering hooves of the Tay Son cavalry pursuing the enemy, the cotton-clad hero Quang Trung in his billowing garments, his face darkened by gunpowder smoke, as well as the joy of Thang Long’s citizens and soldiers during the great victory in the spring of 1789.
The Dong Da Festival lasts until February 4.
