The VTV 2019 International Children’s Festival kicks off in Hoi An, Quang Nam province, on May 31.

The participating countries included the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, China and host Vietnam. The impressive performances of the international and Vietnamese art troupes on the gala night bore the typical traditional cultural identities of each participating country.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the State and the people of Vietnam, Vice President Thinh warmly welcomed guests and children from the eight countries to attend the festival opening in Hoi An, a land with a long history and many famous cultural heritages, which is also a convergence of many different cultures in the world and a land that marks the desire for peace, integration and development of Vietnam.

The Vice President urged the VTV, Quang Nam and Vietnamese children to express their hospitality and introduce their guests to the unique traditions, history and culture of Vietnam, as well as to explore the cultural richness and diversity of other countries in the world.

She also expressed her wish that international guests and children would spend time enjoy the scenery and cultural heritages in Hoi An, as well as other localities across Vietnam, to have good moments there and learn more about the country and people of Vietnam.

The festival is held annually to celebrate International Children’s Day, on June 1, and to strengthen the friendship and solidarity of countries in the region through cultural activities and exchanges between children.

At its first iteration in 2016, the festival gathered children from ASEAN countries. It expanded last year to draw the participation of the Republic of Korea, Russia, China and Japan.
