BAC GIANG - The Li-Ning Vietnam International Series 2024, a prestigious event within the Badminton World Federation (BWF) system, will be held in Bac Giang province from November 12-17, providing athletes with an opportunity to gain points for higher positions in the global rankings.

A total of 197 players will participate in the tournament, including 73 females and 124 males, with many coming from countries and territories with strong badminton movements such as Thailand, India, the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Vietnam will have 83 players at the event, followed by Taiwan (China) 40, and Indonesia 21. Athletes will compete in five categories: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

Vietnamese badminton players are training at the Bac Giang provincial Sports Hall ahead of the tournament.

The tournament is expected to see the participation of notable international stars such as Myanmar's Thet Htar Thuzar, an eight-time champion of the International Series/Challenge in women's singles, and New Zealand's Lau Edward, the reigning Oceania Junior Champion.

The participation of these high-profile athletes promises to deliver thrilling matches, attracting significant public attention. In addition, several players currently ranked in the top 100 by the Badminton World Federation will be also competing.

Among the 83 athletes representing Vietnam, 13 are from Bac Giang province. The tournament will feature some of the country's top players, including "Vietnamese badminton legend" Nguyen Tien Minh from Ho Chi Minh City; Tran Thi Phuong Thuy, Pham Van Hai, Tran Quoc Khanh, and Than Van Anh (Bac Giang); Vu Thi Trang (Ho Chi Minh City); Nguyen Tien Tuan, Bui Bich Phuong, and Vu Thi Chinh (Hanoi); and Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh (Lam Dong).

Khoa Trung Kien, head of the Badminton Department at the Sports Authority of Vietnam, emphasized that the Vietnamese badminton team consists of experienced athletes with great potential. The presence of many top international players will make the tournament more attractive and unpredictable."

On November 10, athletes from the Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand, China, and Taiwan (China) arrived in Bac Giang and are staying at the Muong Thanh Hotel. They have been training and familiarizing themselves with the competition venue ahead of the official matches starting on November 12 (the tournament will not have an opening ceremony).

The Bac Giang provincial Sports Hall is the venue for the Li-Ning Vietnam International Series 2024.

The organizing committee is scheduled to hold a referee meeting on November 11, with teams training according to the established timetable. From November 12 to 16, the tournament will feature matches in the 1/64, 1/32, and 1/16 rounds, as well as the quarterfinals and semifinals. The finals for all five categories will take place on November 17.

In 2022, Bac Giang hosted the badminton events at the 31st SEA Games, earning high praise for its thorough organization, professionalism, and hospitality, contributing to the overall success of the Games. With valuable experience gained from that event, organizers are confident that the Li-Ning Vietnam International Series 2024 will be a success, leaving a lasting positive impression on delegates and sports teams.

The tournament will also help promote Bac Giang's image, people, and tourism to both domestic and international audiences.
