Longan productivity yields over 21,000 tonnes

(BGO) – According to the Plant Production
and Protection Division (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), with
total area of 3,200 ha, the longan productivity in the northern province of Bac
Giang is estimated at over 21,000 tonnes, up more than 5,000 tonnes comparing
to the same period last year.
Thanks to the favorable weather condition this year, the farmers revamp and apply intensive care for the crop, hence the output is much increased.

The major varieties include Long longan, Dai Thanh late ripen longan, Huong Chi and Mien Thiet longan to give big fruits with thick flesh mostly grown in the districts of Luc Nam, Luc Ngan, Tan Yen and Yen The.
It is now the longan harvest season with average selling price of 10 – 20,000 VND per kg. Several traders directly visit the orchards to buy the fresh fruits.
The Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has recently announced the conditions for importing fresh longan from Vietnam to Australia, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia.
The first batch of fresh Vietnamese longan has landed in Australia’s Melbourne airport.
Longan lovers will be treated to longan, a specialty fruit of Hung Yen province, during the 2019 Hung Yen longan and agricultural products week, which opened on August 9 at Big C Thang Long in Hanoi.
The northern mountainous province of Son La held a ceremony in Song Ma district on August 3 to open the Song Ma Longan Festival and announce the export of 60 tonnes of longan to China and other countries.
