Accordingly, Chu urban area has an area of ​​251.55 square kilometers, the inner city area has 5 commune-level administrative units including: Chu town and communes of Hong Giang, Tru Huu, Phuong Son, Thanh Hai (excluding Khuan Reo village); the suburban area includes communes of Quy Son, Nam Duong, My An, Kien Lao and Kien Thanh.

At the same day, the Ministry of Construction issued a Decision recognizing the ​​communes of Luc Ngan district which are expected to be wards of Chu town to meet the standards of urban infrastructure development level that are applicable to wards of fourth tier urban area, including ​​Chu town and the communes of Hong Giang, Tru Huu, Phuong Son, Thanh Hai (excluding Khuan Reo village).

In 2022, the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee issued a Resolution on the policy to rearrange district-level administrative units and urban development in the province for the period of 2022-2025 which oriented the arrangement and adjustment of administrative boundaries of Luc Ngan district and Son Dong district to establish Chu town, new Luc Ngan district and Son Dong district.

Chu urban area meeting the criteria of fourth tier urban area is one of the important conditions for the locality to attract investment for further development and establish Chu town in the future.
