Nguyen Thanh Tam wins yellow jersey in trans-nation cycling tour

The 2018 trans-nation cycling tournament - Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup wrapped up in the southern economic hub on April 30 after 35 days of competition with 30 stages.

Nguyen Thanh Tam wins the yellow jersey.

The final stage stretching 145km from Vinh Long to HCM City saw Le Nguyet Minh (from Minh Giang HCM City team) finish first with a time of 3:43’27 taking the stage win after an impressive sprint finish. This is Minh’s 7th stage win at this year’s tournament, helping him to successfully defend the green jersey - "king of sprint" with 277 points.

Minh was followed by Huynh Thanh Tung (Military Zone 7) in second place and Nguyen Tan Hoai (Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap) in third place.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Thanh Tam and his teammates on the An Giang Hat Ngoc Troi Rice team celebrated winning the yellow jersey for Tam, who finished outside the top three on the 30th stage.

Tam took hold of the yellow jersey after the 15th stage and successfully defended his lead until he had crossed the finish line in HCM City.

The Vietnam USA Society English Centre Ho Chi Minh City claim the best placed team prize.

This is the first yellow jersey to be won by a member of the national cycling team in the HCM City Television Cup. The An Giang team also took second place overall with Ali Khademi and won the white jersey for the best young cyclist Ngo Van Phuong, as well as the second prize in the team category.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam USA Society English Centre HCM City topped the team category. This year's tournament with the name "Non song lien mot dai (a united country)" covered the longest distance in the history of the 30 editions of the HCM City Television Cup. The route began from the northern Lang Son province and traveled to the southernmost Ca Mau province before turning back to HCM City, over a total of 3,267km spread between 30 stages.
