Old people set bright examples
Promoting the role of the elderly
Currently, the province has over 254,700 members of the old people’s associations (accounting for 15.9 percent of the province's total population), participating in activities in nearly 2,500 chapters. Nguyen Ba Thuc, Vice President of the provincial Association of the Elderly said that old people are always a valuable internal force in the society.

With their experience and prestige, old people, together with their children, actively respond to and participate in activities in the localities. In particular, the officials of the association always set an example. Every year, the associations at all levels have actively built plans and selected appropriate work to assign to each chapter and its members through the signing of emulation contents.
Several movements such as "The elderly do good production and business and help each other in poverty reduction" and "the elderly engage in building a cultural life in residential areas", "the elderly participate in building new-style rural areas" have attracted a large number of members. "The fact shows that in places where cadres are good, movements there are vibrant and widespread, actively contributing to the implementation of local socio-economic tasks," Thuc emphasized.

At many grassroots-level associations, thanks to the leading role of cadres, creative ways used by old people have brought in positive effects. For example, the association of the elderly in Viet Yen district has actively persuaded people to donate land to build public works and roads, and complete new-style rural building criteria.
Leading a happy, healthy and useful life
In each locality, the cadres of the associations set an example in each movement, attracting a large number of members to participate in activities for a happy and healthy life and continue promoting their roles. As a habit, every evening, at the yard of the cultural house of Que Vo village, Tu Lan commune (Viet Yen district), members of the eurhythmics club gather together to practice. Laughs are mixed with the sounds of paper fans.

Not only in Que Vo village, but all villages and hamlets of Tu Lan commune in the early morning or late afternoon are also vibrant with the eurhythmics movement. It is known that 11 of 14 villages in the commune have eurhythmics clubs of the elderly, attracting about 400 members.
In Tan Dinh commune (Lang Giang district), the study encouragement movement has spread to every family, clan, unit and school. This is because Tan Dinh has done well the work of setting an example among officials and Party members, especially promoting the role of the elderly with the model of “exemplary grandparents and parents, pious children”.

Each member is responsible for reminding and encouraging children to study well and other family members to actively contribute to the funds and participate in study promotion activities in the locality.
According to Nguyen Ba Thuc, to help old people continue contributing to the development of the locality, in the coming time, the provincial Association of the Elderly will focus on directing the all-level associations to actively cooperate with other mass organizations to make assessments on emulation movement accomplishment based on operation results. It will promptly commend, reward and multiple role models to raise the effectiveness of each movement of old people in the province.
