Updated: 09:33, 02/06/2019
Phong Phu Ha Nam were crowned champions of the inaugural Women’s National Cup after edging out Hanoi FC 1-0 in the final match on May 31.

The Hanoi team took control of the clash right from the start but could not turn their possession into goals, with Hai Yen and Vu Thi Nhung missing clear-cut chances to open the scoring.

Phong Phu Ha Nam celebrate winning the Women's National Cup trophy.

The two teams went into halftime level, despite their concerted efforts to find the back of the net.

After the break, Phong Phu Ha Nam stayed patient with their counterattacking tactics and surprisingly went ahead thanks to Vu Thi Thuy’s fantastic long-range strike.

Hanoi FC pushed hard for an equaliser in the remainder of the final but they failed to break through Ha Nam’s solid defence.

With the narrow win, Phong Phu Ha Nam became the first winners of the Women’s National Cup trophy.

TNG Thai Nguyen claimed third place overall following their 2-1 victory over Son La.

Pham Thi Hai Yen of Hanoi FC was named as both the top scorer (six goals) and the best player of the tournament, while Lai Thi Tuyet of Phong Phu Ha Nam was voted as the best goalkeeper.

The 2019 competition brought together the six teams of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City Youth, Son La (Group A), Phong Phu Ha Nam, Ho Chi Minh City II, and TNG Thai Nguyen (Group B). The participants played in a round robin format to decide the top two teams from each group to qualify for the title match.
