Provincial leader asks to put Israeli lychee preservation technology in operation as scheduled

(BGO) – The Vice Chairman of Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee Duong Van Thai on May 21 inspected the execution schedule of the National independent project of “Researching the application of technology of Israeli Juran company on preserving lychees and some other fruits for export” in Luc Ngan district. He was accompanied by leaders of the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Science and Technology and Luc Ngan district People’s Committee.

The project was approved by the provincial People’s Committee in early 2016 under the chair of the Centre for Advanced Science and Technology Application (Department of Science and Technology (DoST) in Bac Giang province) with a total cost of some 22 billion VND (966,100 USD) mobilized from the State budget and enterprise’ reciprocal capital.

The technology can help maintain the natural red color of lychee’s peel as well as the fruit’s flavor, avoiding the lychee’s peel to turn brown after three days. With the system, lychee will maintain its red color in 4-5 weeks for trading.

The preservation chain which is designed flexibly, with the maximum capacity of 70 tonnes per hours was tested and granted the Patent in the USA.

Implementing the project, the Center surveyed, selected and developed 20 hectares of lychee cultivation under GlobalGAP standard in Chao Cu hamlet, Giap Son commune (Luc Ngan district). Besides, representative of Toan Cau Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Toan Cau JSC) who is in charge of managing the chain said they have prepared the facilities ready to receive the preservation line, including material gathering site, workshop to install the system and refrigerator storage.

However, DoST informed that Toan Cau JSC has yet to import the system despite the expiry date was over. The reason is that Juran company delayed in manufacturing and transporting the system to Hai Phong port (Vietnam) as well. Consequently, it is really hard for them to operate the preservation line as the proposed schedule in this lychee season.

Speaking at the inspection, Vice Chairman Duong Van Thai asked the DoST to continue contacting and urging Juran Company to accelerate the delivery progress to Hai Phong port. In addition, Toan Cau JSC was urged to complete the customs formalities and facilities while promptly conducting the installation of the system for a trial run in this crop as the basis for summary assessment before official operation in 2019 lychee season.

Besides, DoST and Luc Ngan district People’s Committee should pay due attention to dealing with the enterprise ’obstacles during operation.

Apart from lychee preservation, to well prepare the material area for Toan Cau JSC production by the new line, Vice Chairman Thai requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to work with the People’s Committees in other districts in order to build a model linking their production of vegetable and fruit with the farmers.

At the same day, Vice Chairman Thai visited the safe lychee growing model in Quy Son commune, Luc Ngan district.
