Provincial Vice Chairman Mai Son extends New Year greetings to UNESCO, JICA Vietnam

(BGO)- Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee of Bac Giang province Mai Son and representatives of some related departments visited to extend New Year greetings to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam.

At the meeting with the UNESCO Office, Mai Son highly spoke on due attention of the Organization to recognition of the province’s cultural heritages. Currently, the province is working with Quang Ninh and Hai Duong provinces to construct the profile of “the complex of Yen Tu Monuments and Landscape” (in Quang Ninh, Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces) for UNESCO’s recognition as the world heritage.

The provincial Vice Chairman Mai Son visits UNESCO Office in Vietnam on New Year occasion.

He expected the leaders and staff of UNESCO Office would arrange time for a site visit to Bac Giang and advise the province to timely complete the profile for recognition of the complex of Yen Tu Monuments and Landscape.

Currently, the province is home to 5 UNESCO-recognized heritages including Quan ho folk songs, Ca Tru (ceremonial singing), Vinh Nghiem pagoda woodblocks, practices related to the Viet beliefs in the Mother Goddesses of Three Realms and practices of Then by Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups.

Michael Croft, UNESCO Representative in Vietnam expressed his impression on Bac Giang’s dramatic economic growth rate in 2020. He thanked the provincial leader their visit. UNESCO is willing to accompany Bac Giang province and collaborate to invite experts in cultural and agricultural tourism to help the province develop new tours and routines.

Besides, he expected the leaders and people of Bac Giang province to pay attention to fostering cooperation in cultural heritage preservation in line with economic development. In coming time, UNESCO wants to cooperate with the provincial people’s committee to organize national and international conferences in Bac Giang to promote the cultural heritages and boost the local economic development.

On the same day, the provincial Vice Chairman Mai Son paid a pre-Tet visit to JICA Vietnam. He informed, currently there are 27 Japanese enterprises in Bac Giang province employing more than 1,000 laborers. He expected JICA to reset the “Japan Desk Bac Giang” and send volunteers to help Bac Giang implement this programme.

Shimiza Akira, Chief Representative of JICA in Vietnam shared about dramatic results in the cooperative tie between Japan and Vietnam. He stressed, JICA would continue seeking opportunities for establishing the twin relationship between Bac Giang and one locality in Japan, collaborate with the Japanese External Trade Organization to invite investors to Bac Giang, reset “Japan Desk Bac Giang” and implement “cooperation on human resources training” programme to serve industrial and farm production.
