Send-off held for Vietnamese athletes going to Asian Para Games

The Vietnam Paralympic Association (VPA) held a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on September 28 to send off the Vietnam disability sporting delegation to the third Asian Para Games in Indonesia (INAPG 2018).

The Vietnamese contingent, led by VPA Vice President and General Secretary, Vu The Phiet, is made up of 75 members, including 52 athletes and 11 trainers and medical workers.

The Vietnamese athletes will battle it out for medals in seven of the total 18 sports, namely swimming, track and field, powerlifting, chess, badminton, table tennis and judo.

Addressing the event, head of Vietnam’s INAPG 2018 team, Vu The Phiet, emphasized the Vietnamese athletes’ utmost efforts to bring glory to the homeland, thereby demonstrating the extraordinary will of the Vietnamese people and affirming the disabled’s desire to live, integrate and devote.

INAPG 2018 is also a step in the preparation of the Vietnamese athletes with disabilities towards the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, he said.

As part of the preparations for INAPG 2018, Vietnam’s trainers and athletes have gathered for training in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh since August 1. Earlier, Vietnam’s disabled athletes were enabled to participate in the international athletics, swimming and powerlifting tournaments in Thailand, Italy and Spain in order to gain experience.

INAPG 2018 is scheduled to take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from October 6 to 14, gathering competitors from 45 countries and territories across Asia.

At the ninth ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia last year, the Vietnamese delegation won a total of 161 medals, including 40 golds, 61 silvers and 60 bronzes, while breaking nine Games records.

Vietnam began competing at the Asian Games (Asiad) from the 1982 event in New Delhi, India, with 40 athletes, coaches and officials, competing in three sports including athletics, swimming and shooting. Vietnam aims to win three to five gold medals at the on-going Asiad 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.
 
Bac Giang to host 3 national sports events in 2018
(BGO) – According to the agenda and competition scheme from the Vietnam National Administration of Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and  Tourism), Bac Giang province is selected to host three national sports events, including the National Youth Badminton Championship, Team Chess Tourney (in June) and Chess Tournament for strong competitors (in August).
