Severe cold wave hits Northern and North Central Vietnam

Updated: 16:41, 08/02/2025

A strong cold wave is bringing widespread severe cold to Northern Vietnam and the North Central region starting today (February 7). The lowest temperatures in the North are expected to range from 9-12°C, dropping to 5-8°C in mountainous areas, and below 3°C in higher-altitude regions, where snow and ice may occur.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, early this morning, the cold air mass had already affected some northern mountainous areas.

Northern Vietnam will experience severe cold.

It is expected to spread across the entire North, North Central Vietnam, and parts of Central Vietnam, eventually reaching the South Central region.

As a result, Northern Vietnam will experience severe cold, while North Central provinces will see temperatures drop significantly from the night of February 7. Areas from Quang Binh to Hue will also turn cold, with some places experiencing severe cold conditions.

In Hanoi, temperatures will range from 10-12°C, with some areas experiencing extreme cold.

Authorities warn that snow and ice may form in high-altitude areas, posing risks to livestock and crops. The severe cold is expected to persist until February 10, significantly impacting agriculture and daily life in affected regions.
