Visiting tea garden of Hoang Thi Quyt in Neo residential area, Tay Yen Tu town, we firstly eyed a vast cool green. Quyt shared it is easy to grow tea because the crop seems to well develop on local weather and soil. Using organic fertilizer and clean water, the tea has few worm and disease; yields high and stable productivity.
Her family not only pays attention to safely growing tea but also to processing dried tea product. To keep the flavor and taste, they must well understand technical procedure from tea caring, harvesting and drying.
Previously, the locals used to dry tea by cookers and pans with hand stirring which took a lot of efforts and made red tea colour. Nowadays, they invested in drying machine together with modern tea stirring and heating equipment, helping save time, increase productivity and product quality.
Thanks to safe caring and harvesting procedure, Bat Tien tea boasts for distinctive flavor and taste that lure numerous customers.
“To enhance the product quality, some households and I took Bat Tien tea to inspect the quality per food hygiene and safety standard and register the brand of Bat Tien tea. However, we have yet to get the brand recognition due to shortage of some condition. We hope to have due attention from levels and sectors to create brand for local Bat Tien tea,” shared Quyt.
Bat Tien tea is mostly grown in Tay Yen Tu town. For recent years, local authority has actively cooperated with competent agencies in the districts, provincial departments and sectors to communicate and support farmers to grow tea in line with quality assurance procedure, food hygiene and safety standard while using bio and herbal fertilziers and plant protection products to prevent the worm and disease to increase the productivity and harvest period.
To develop this crop, the provincial People’s Committee added Bat Tien tea in the list of provincial signature farm produce in 2017. From various capital sources, especially Programme 30a, the district People’s Committee has assisted more than 20,000 seedlings and tea packing machine to local households.
Local authority has oriented to recover the tea growing area, establish cooperative to facilitate the technology delivery, linkage on farm produce consumption among growers, businesses and market while proposing levels and sectors to support Bat Tien tea to become signature product in close connection to tourism development.
