On the afternoon of November 23, at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel (Hanoi), the first Vietnam Cultural Heritage Festival was held, featuring traditional dances, folk singing and folk games, as well as a calligraphy exhibition.

Later on in the evening, at the Vietnam Culture and Arts Exhibition Centre (Hanoi), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism opened an exhibition featuring the diversity of national tangible and intangible heritage, including those recognized internationally by UNESCO.

With the theme “Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Space”, the three-day event will feature a photo exhibition, traditional art performances, folk games and a fair of agricultural products and souvenirs from various localities.

On Friday evening, the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Centre, No. 50 Dao Duy Tu street, Hanoi, introduced a new collection inspired by traditional Vietnamese long dresses. The event also highlighted musical exchanges and displays of instruments of Hue royal music. Also, on November 23, Lam Dong province kick-started a festival to honor folk music with performances by ethnic minorities from the Truong Son Range - Central Highlands area.

Ho Chi Minh City also marked the Vietnam Heritage Day yesterday with a meeting and photo award ceremony to honor the winning works that reflect the beauty of the city’s heritage.

The beauty and cultural values of traditional Vietnamese masks were introduced at an exhibition which opened at the Da Nang Museum on November 23.

Meanwhile, the characteristic cultural heritage of the Muong ethnic group in Hoa Binh province was also introduced via 200 documents and artifacts at an exhibition at Hoa Binh Museum on Friday.

The south-central province of Phu Yen held a ceremony on November 23 to receive a certificate of national intangible cultural heritage for the growing-up ceremony of the Ede ethnic minority people. The ceremony is an important ritual of the Ede people, announcing that an Ede person is an adult with the full capacity to take charge of major works in their family and village, while asking for the Gods’ support for their life to be healthy, happy and successful.

The same day, Phu Tho province held a ceremony to award the title of "Phu Tho Xoan Singing Artists" to an additional 14 local artists for their efforts in preserving and promoting the UNESCO recognized heritage.

Week to highlight great national unity, Vietnam’s cultural heritage

A week themed “Great National Unity - Vietnam’s Cultural Heritage 2018” will take place at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, in Hanoi, from November 18 to 23.

A book on Hanoi’s intangible cultural heritage in Contemporary Life was launched on November 9 at Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature - National University).
