Veteran Nguyen Van Thinh inspires marital arts in Cau Vong land
Veteran Nguyen Van Thinh has been well-known in Yen The and Tan Yen’s sporting world and marital art sector for his dedication, passion for the career and enormous contributions to the local marital arts since 1990s.
Thinh loved marital arts since he was a child when he often learned from the seniors at the local marital arts school.

He joined the army in May 1978 to the battalion 7, regiment 141, division 3 with the reconnaissance mission in Lang Son border in the fight to protect the northern border of the Nation. During his military service, he had opportunity to learn and improve his marital art skills with the training courses in the army.
He was discharge from the military in 1982 and came back the hometown with valuable experience in marital arts. At first, he just taught marital arts to his family members and neighbours to improve their health.
That time, he also self studied to improve knowledge from senior people. Especially, he has participated in the training courses organized by the Vietnamese Traditional Marital Arts Federation in Hai Phong, Hue, Hanoi and Binh Dinh for 6 times.
Because he used to be a scout, Thinh’s lessons of marital arts, which he teaches his learners, feature identity of the soldiers.
He officially opened the first marital art school in Dau village pagoda, Cao Thuong township in 1999 with about 20 marital arts practitioners at the beginning and then the number has been increasing. Realizing efficiency of the marital arts school with several achievements, the sport sector of Tan Yen district invited Thinh to become the head the marital arts club in the district’s cultural and sports center.
Thanks to attention of the district authority, Thinh has widespread the movement, particularly opening many marital arts classes in the communes of Viet Lap, Cao Xa, Hop Duc, Phuc Hoa, Quang Tien and Phuc Son. While these classes lured participation of hundreds of learners.
According to veteran Nguyen Van Thinh, there are 3 important factors for a marital arts learner which are quickness, strength and accuracy. As it is a fighting game, Thinh always requires his students to learn ethnics apart from practicing marital arts.
The students not only learn marital arts to improve their health and have healthy life but also learn good deeds and sense of disciplines. This is a way to inspire the pride of the tradition of the heroic land, which makes many parents trust in him to send their children to learn.

Currently, Tan Yen is the only district in the province maintaining the annual marital arts festival in summer with friendly matches, belt promotion exams, evaluation of the training results and district-level traditional marital arts competitions creating a playground and competition opportunities for the practitioners to enhance their qualification.
Although Thinh assigned the coaching mission to his learners 2 years ago, he plays an important role in training marital arts.
Bringing into full play the tradition of the land of sportsmanship, the traditional marital arts have been effectively maintained with unique methods of the district sport sector such as promoting roles of the sports collaborators in which Nguyen Van Thinh is one of the outstanding faces, said Duong Van Thao, Vice Director of the Cultural and Sports Center of Tan Yen district.
Not only contributing to developing, Thinh has also inspired the movement of practicing traditional marital arts for over 20 years. Many learners have been chosen from the local gifted classes to the provincial and district teams to participate in different competitions with high achievements.
