Viet Yen district qualifies for recognition as a new-style rural area

(BGO) - The provincial People’s Committee of Bac Giang province held a conference to discuss and vote to ask for recognition of Viet Yen district as a new-style rural area. Duong Van Thai, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee chaired the conference.

At the conference, representative of the provincial Fatherland Front, the standing agency of the Steering Committee for the National Target Program on building new-style rural areas in Bac Giang province (the Steering Committee) delivered the reports on results of verifying the profile for recognition, collecting opinions of the related agencies, organization and local people on the verification result recognizing Viet Yen district that mets criteria of new-style rural area in 2018 and evaluation of the public’s satisfaction with the results of building new-style rural areas.

After 8 years of implementation (2011 to 2018), Viet Yen has fulfilled the contents of building new-style rural areas at communal and district levels. The district mobilized a total fund of nearly 3 trillion VND (130 million USD) to build new-style areas 

In 2018, the income per capita is estimated at 36 million VND (1,500 USD), up 2.3 times comparing to 2011. The rate of poor household is estimated at 4.21% by the end of 2018 while it was 8.43% in 2015. 

The movement namely “All people build cultural life” in line with building new-style rural areas has been boosted efficiency. The political system has been improved. Over 90% of local people taking part in a public satisfaction survey satisfy with the related sectors in all 17 communes meeting new-style rural criteria.

The participants spent much time discussing at the conference and agreed that Viet Yen district meets all conditions to be requested for Prime Minister’s recognition as a new-style rural area in 2018. 100% members of the Steering Committee voted to ask for recognition of Viet Yen district as a new-style rural area.

Concluding the event, Vice Chairman Thai stressed, building new-style rural areas is an everlasting task which requires involvement of the whole political system. Thus, the district needs to continue fostering the movement of building new-style rural hamlets and communes. 

It is necessary to promote values of the cultural relics for preservation and tourism development while maintaining security and social order. Besides, it is essential to heighten the criteria especially the criteria on environment including handling environmental pollution at the two handicraft villages of Phuc Lam and Van Ha.

Regarding production development, the district needs to focus on the consumption linkages while expanding high-tech models and planning specialized cultivation areas. The propaganda should be boosted to raise the awareness of local people in building new-style rural areas.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the provincial Coordination Office for new-style rural areas collaborate with the Office of Viet Yen district to promptly finalize the report on profile verification to submit the provincial People’s Committee by 10 August. The profile needs to be completed and sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in middle August and submitted to the Government in late September for recognition in 2018.

Previously, Duong Van Thai and the participants paid field trip to Phuc Lam hamlet, Hoang Ninh commune on environmental issues, some traffic routes in the district, Viet Yen High School no 2, the Kindergarten of Ninh Son commune, the road to Bo Da relic site and the high-tech production area of Minh Tam Cooperative at Viet Tien commune.
