Vietnamese Embassy in Russia hosts Tet banquet

The Vietnamese Embassy in Russia held a diplomatic banquet to welcome Lunar New Year (Tet) in Moscow on January 30.

Among guests at the event, there were representatives from Russian ministries of foreign affairs, defence, and economic development, Russia – Vietnam friendship associations, the Russian Academy of Science, local universities, and embassies of ASEAN member states in Russia.

Delivering a speech, Ambassador Ngo Duc Manh said Vietnam – Russia comprehensive strategic partnership made significant progress last year, with political trust enhanced via high-level delegation exchanges, citing as examples the official visit by Vietnam’s Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and trips to Vietnam by Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin.

Bilateral ties thrived in all fields from economy and defense-security to education and humanities cooperation, he said, adding that two-way trade exceeded 5.5 billion USD, an annual increase of 30 percent.

The diplomat expressed his belief that the partnership will further grow and deepen with efforts made by both countries, highlighting that hundreds of activities have been planned to celebrate the 69th anniversary of their diplomatic relations as well as the Vietnam Year in Russia and Russia Year in Vietnam this year.

Nicolai Nozdrev, Director of the Third Asian Department under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, showed his delight at the development of the ties, which he believes will reap more success in 2019.

Earlier, on January 29, a Tet gathering was hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine for the expatriate community, filled with greetings, Vietnamese food, and music.

New York gathering celebrates Tet
Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) and the Vietnamese Consulate General in New York have held a get-together on the occasion of the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) festival, with the participation of nearly 400 overseas Vietnamese. 
 
Vietnamese Tet products gaining favour with local consumers
Vietnamese consumers’ preferences for locally-made confectionaries, jams, and cookies, among others, have been on the rise for the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) festivities.
 
3,650 domestic flights to be added during Tet holiday
Domestic airlines have announced that there will be an additional 3,650 flights to 19 internal airports to meet the increasing travel demand during the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2019, lifting the total number flights for the holiday period to 28,500, up 8.7 percent year-on-year. 
 
56.7 billion VND spent on Tet bonus to laborers
(BGO) – Ahead of the Lunar New Year festival (Year of the Pig), leaders of Taiwanese invested New Wing Interconnect Technology Company Limited (in Van Trung Industrial Park, Viet Yen district, Bac Giang province) mobilized 56.7 billion VND (over 2.4 million USD) to provide Tet bonus to nearly 12,600 laborers. 
 
Tet traditions honour Kitchen Gods
For most Vietnamese, Tet (Lunar New Year) festival has actually begun with the “Ong Cong - Ong Tao” (Land Genie and Kitchen Gods) ceremony on the 23rd of the last month of the lunar year, which falls on January 28 this year.
