Vietnamese film “Infill & Full Set” won two awards at the Oxford International Short Film Festival in the U.K.

The film is directed by Dao Duc Hai, an independent filmmaker with a master’s degree in film production from London. The 14-minute film, produced in just four days on a budget of £5,000 ($6,600), is about the life of illegal Vietnamese immigrants in Britain.

Phuong plays a young pregnant woman who is an illegal immigrant in the U.K. She has to hide her wrongdoing and seek jobs at Vietnamese-owned nail salons in London to survive.

The film was made in 2017 and has been shown in nearly 20 international film festivals. It was also screened in the 2018 Cannes Film Festival in the Short Film Corner.

The success of the film is owed to the efforts of the entire crew, Phuong said. For her, the award was a great motivation to return to acting after a hiatus.

The first Oxford International Short Film Festival attracted young filmmakers from Germany, the U.S., the U.K., Spain, Iran, Sweden and other countries. Infill & Full Set was the only Vietnamese entry.
