Vietnamese GM advances at Spring Chess Classic in US

Vietnam’s top chess player Le Quang Liem continued his progress by beating Grandmaster Rustam Kasimdzhanov from Uzbekistan in the fourth round of the ongoing Spring Chess Classic on March 5 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the US.

Grandmaster Liem (Elo rating 2,715), defeated Kasimdzhanov (FIDE World Champion in 2004-2005) after the Uzbek player made some mistakes in the final minute.

Le Quang Liem has continued to find success at the Spring Chess Classic.

The victory brought Liem back into the first group of the tournament with 2.5 points.

In the next game, Liem will play Armenian-born American Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian (Elo 2,643), who got 1.5 points in the fourth round.
