Vu Thi Trang creates Vietnamese badminton history

(BGO) – The Bac Giang born player Vu Thi Trang (world No 74) on August 20 made big surprise at the Badminton World Championship 2019 held in the Switzerland after defeating No.15 seed Line Kjaersfeldt of Denmark (world No 17) to secure the ticket to third round of the women’s singles.

Trang’s multiform and enduring manner surprised Line Kjaersfeldt at the first match. The Bac Giang’s player stayed ahead her rival 19-12 then to be shorten down 9-20 and completed the match by a victory 21-19.

The victory helped the wife of Vietnam's No 1 male player Nguyen Tien Minh enter the third round of the women’s singles to face Yeo Jia Min of Singapore (world No 32), who defeated world No 1 player Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

Vu Thi Trang now is the only representative of Vietnamese badminton still in the tournament because all the other players namely Nguyen Tien Minh, Pham Cao Cuong (men’s singles), Nguyen Thuy Linh (women’s singles), Tuan Duc and Nhu Thao (mix doubles) were eliminated.
