Youths join hands to pay tribute to national contributors

(BGO)- July is a special occasion for the youth in Bac Giang. With many constructions and specific tasks, the youth have expressed their deep gratitude and tribute to former generations who devoted their life for the nation.

Every year when July comes, the youth unions in Bac Giang city organizes many activities to pay tribute to the national contributors and policy beneficiary families.

The youth union of Yen The district collaborates with the district’s public security, 409 Brigat and camps No 2 and 4 of Ngoc Ly prison to present gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mother Dong Thi Nham in Tam Hiep district.

Pham Thi Vu (born in 1948) in Tan My village, Dong Son commune, a former youth volunteer faces difficult conditions. Her son is disabled while she cannot do heavy jobs after suffering from a stroke in late 2019, thus their family have to live on the government’s support.

Recently, the municipal youth union of Bac Giang city visited and gave Vu a gift worth 600,000 VND (26 USD).

The annual series “July of tribute” is remarked with the joint activities by the youth unions, young doctors’ club and youth unions of the hospitals in the locality.

Nguyen Hong hai (76 years old) in Tan My commune, Bac Giang city has benefited from this programme in recent 3 years with free health check and consultancy organized by the municipal Youth Union, the provincial Center for Disease Control and the Association of Former youth volunteers.

In Yen The, the district’ youth union collaborates with youth unions of the armed forces to visit and gift the Vietnamese Heroic Mother Dong Thi Nham (born in 1930) in Tam Hiep commune, organize other activities such as helping martyrs’ families and families of the soldiers who are working in the borders and islands and refurbish the martyrs’ cemeteries in the communes and towns.

Promoting the tradition “When drinking the water, think of its source”

According to the statistics of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, there are more than 160,000 policy beneficiaries in the entire province including 21,000 martyrs, 21,600 wounded soldiers, 1,300 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and the rest of those joining in the resistance wars and Agent Orange victims.

The youth unions focus on propagating the 73rd anniversary of Vietnam War Invalids' and Martyrs' Day to the youth unionists and children on social networks.

In order to contribute to improving living standards of the national contributors in the localities, the youth unions have done many specific works such as providing health check and consultancy and gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and war invalids wounded soldiers, helping the policy beneficiary families and martyrs’ relatives paint and repair their houses and harvest farm products. Besides, they voluntarily clean up and refurbish more than 200 monuments and martyrs’ cemeteries in the province.

The youth unions in each locality have creative methods marking the youth’s contributions and promoting the tradition ‘when drinking the water, think of its source”.

Particularly, the youth union of Huong Son commune, Lang Giang district has collaborated with Su Hang Event Center located in the locality to hold an art performance exchange to raise tribute and humanitarian funds.

The performance night attracted participation and support of many enterprises and individuals. The total amount of 17.2 million VND (742 USD) was handed to 13 families of war invalids, wounded soldiers and disadvantaged people.

On this occasion, the youth unions of Tan Yen, Yen Dung and Luc Ngan districts joint hands with the army troops in the localities to organize “Green march” campaign to help the policy beneficiary families and national contributors paint and repair their houses.

The youth unions in Bac Giang city and the districts of Yen The, Luc Nam and Lang Giang registered to take care of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and martyrs’ mothers, supported and provided awards and scholarships to children of the war invalids and wounded soldiers facing hard conditions.

“With the specific deeds and constructions, the youth unionists in the entire province hope to express their gratitude to the martyrs, war invalids and wounded soldiers who devoted their life for the peace today. This is also an occasion to educate the tradition of patriotism and revolutionary ideology to young generation”, said Nguy Van Tuyen, Secretary of the provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the provincial Youth Federation.

The localities around the country and organisations in Hanoi have held many practical activities to pay tribute to national contributors on the occasion of upcoming War Invalids' and Martyrs' Day (July 27).
Helping national contributors not to become poor again
(BGO) - To gradually improve the quality of life for people  who rendered service to the nation, the labour, war invalids and social affairs sector strives to have no poor households whose members are policy beneficiaries by the end of 2020. In Bac Giang, this task was completed in 2019.
Outstanding contributors to COVID-19 fight honoured
Twenty certificates of merit of the Prime Minister have been awarded to collectives and individuals who significantly contributed to the fight against the acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), heard a meeting of the Central Council for Emulation and Rewards in Hanoi on February 20.

Eighteen persons whose stories had exerted positive impacts on the community in 2019 were honoured with WeChoice Awards at a gala night in Ho Chi Minh City on January 12.
