Youths promote creativity to honour national history
Numerous cultural and entertainment products on the theme of history have been launched by young people on digital platforms on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. Notable among them is the project recreating the Cu Chi Tunnels as a “virtual museum” within an online game, illustrating the creativity of youth in remembering national history and spreading national pride.
Inspired by the film ‘Dia Dao: Mat Troi Trong Bong Toi’ (Tunnel: Sun in the Dark), the Mini-Dev group (a collective of creative players in Mini World) — including Nguyen Tuan Tien (born 1994), Truong Giang (2006), Hoang Nhan (2011), and Mini Ca (2007) — spent about three weeks designing a map of the special military structure of the Cu Chi Tunnels, using the language of online gaming. Mini World is an online game designed for players aged nine and above.

To ensure the map’s details were accurate, the group referenced many official sources.
Team leader Nguyen Tuan Tien also visited the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Site in Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City to observe, photograph, and take notes on each passageway, chamber, and phase of the resistance.
According to Tien, one of the aims of recreating the Cu Chi Tunnels in the game is to allow young people who have not had the chance to visit the site, or are not old enough to watch the recently-released film ‘Tunnel: Sun in the Dark’, to explore and learn about the tunnels’ structure, functions, and stories in an authentic and vivid way through technology.
With the support of creative tools in Mini World, the group recreated spaces within the tunnels such as the operations meeting room, bunker, shelter, infirmary, food storage, and weapons depot, along with familiar wartime items including the Hoang Cam stove, radio, pith helmet, and more.
More than just a model, the map integrates interactive games such as history quizzes, scavenger hunts, and mission-based challenges, allowing players to both experience and remember history in a gentle yet engaging manner.
Especially, after completing the journey “Cu Chi Tunnels – Tracing the Dawn,” the player’s character enters a new map, also built by the Mini World community, featuring other famous landmarks across Viet Nam.
This conveys the young creators’ humanistic message: after the darkness of war comes the light of peace, in which the beautiful country continues to develop each day while writing new chapters in its history.
Following its launch on April 30, the “Cu Chi Tunnels – Tracing the Dawn” map in Mini World attracted over 14,000 visits and 3,500 downloads within the first 12 hours. Hundreds of comments and shares across digital platforms reflected users’ excitement and appreciation about the project.

Recognising the project’s significance and positive impact, Mini World Viet Nam quickly featured it on official media channels and organised a variety of activities — including mission challenges, and check-in photo contests — as a way to support young people on their journey to explore and honour history.
The Mini-Dev group’s project is a vivid testament to the abundant creativity and sense of responsibility of today’s young generation in honouring the past and conveying profound values through the language and tools of their era.
It shows that born and raised in peace, and growing up alongside the explosive development of science and technology, young people are not forgetting history but are striving to breathe new life into old lessons, making Vietnamese history and the spirit a natural flow within modern life.
