Updated: 20:01, 03/05/2021
(BGO) - In order to arouse patriotism, national pride and self-reliance and self-reliance among young people, the Veterans Associations at all levels in Bac Giang province have paid attention to educating the revolutionary tradition for the young generation.

Determining tradition education for the young generation as a very important and necessary task, the Veterans Associations at all levels in the province, in many forms, have regularly coordinated with mass organizations and schools to organize activities.

Students of the Tran Phu Secondary School listen to stories about the years of combating in the battlefields by members of the Bac Giang city Veterans Association.

Practical experiences at historic sites, meetings with war "witnesses", stories in the battlefields, the fighting process and comradeship of veterans have helped students feel part of the soldiers’ hardship and courage, sacrifice and will, as well as the solidarity of the nation.

As one of the units doing well this work, the Veterans Association of Bac Giang city has directed its grassroots-level chapters to regularly organize talks about the revolutionary tradition, attracting the participation of people of different ages.

Following the military career for nearly a lifetime, in 1992, veteran Tran Quang Minh in Hoang Van Thu ward retired when three shrapnel were still in his body. Continuing to promote the tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", he has participated in local activities and always taken the lead in implementing the guidelines and policies of the Party and State.

In order to "giving fire of revolution" to the young generation with his true stories when he fought to defend the ancient citadel of Quang Tri and joined the border protection war, in these days, he has coordinated with many schools to hold talks on the historical event of the liberation of the South on April 30, 1975. To create excitement and active engagement among students, he has combined storytelling and discussion in each given situation.

In Viet Yen district, the district Veterans Association has cooperated with the district Youth Union in organizing activities to study the revolutionary tradition, and visits to museums, historical sites, traditional relic sites and red addresses to educate and foster revolutionary ideals and arouse patriotism among the young generation.

On special occasions, veterans, together with the Youth Union members and young people, organize activities to visit and present gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded and sick soldiers, martyrs' families and people who rendered service to the revolution; clean the environment; and burn incense at martyrs' cemeteries and monuments.

The provincial Veterans Association currently has more than 700 rapporteurs and communicators regularly participating in talks on the revolutionary tradition. On average, each year, the veterans associations at all levels jointly organize hundreds of talks and visits to historic sites as well as build houses of gratitude and give gifts to policy beneficiaries.

In addition to performing the task of educating the revolutionary tradition for the young generation, the veterans associations at all levels have also partnered with Party committees, authorities and mass organizations to persuade Youth Union members and young people to strictly abide by the Law on Military Service.

Veteran Dao Van Dong in Quynh Son commune (Yen Dung district) said: “Before each military recruiting season, we coordinated with the communal Youth Union to meet with the enlisted youngsters to capture their thoughts and feelings and encourage them to follow their forefathers to fulfill military service to safeguard the Fatherland. Many veterans associations in Yen Dung district have also assigned staff to educate bad youngsters, helping them integrate into the community; and accompany young people in building a strong youth union.

Chairman of the provincial Veterans Association Le Van Hoan said in the coming time, the association will continue to direct its chapters at all levels to renovate the methods of educating the revolutionary tradition for young people, continue to effectively implement the programmes to coordinate with the provincial Youth Union in enhancing the fostering of revolutionary ideals and accompany young people in setting up career and take the pioneering role in national construction and defense. This is an important political task that the provincial Veterans Association has paid special heed to.
