55 years of Tien Son - The flame of gratitude is still burning

Updated: 18:21, 19/04/2022
(BGO) - Going to Tien Son village, Hop Duc commune (Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province), I by chance met the first-generation members of Tran Quoc Toan team. Surprised and also a little curious, I joined a group of people who went to a house on the hillside in Lien Chung commune and then I found out that they gathered here to visit a martyr's mother who had just passed away.

The house of mother Nguyen Thi Xuyen is located on the red soil hillside in Lien Chung commune. Mother Nguyen Thi Xuyen, who just passed away at the age of 89, is the mother of a martyr. And the men and women were the first members of Tran Quoc Toan team in Tien Son village, Hop Duc commune - the cradle of the famous "Miss Tam joins the team" movement in the country in the past. They were members of the Tien Son Young Bamboo Cooperative established in 1967 and also members of the Ho Chi Minh Young Vanguard Children Union.

Nguyen Thi Nham (second from left), former cooperative member of the Young Bamboo Cooperative, tells members of the Children’s Union today about the "Miss Tam joins the team" movement in the past.

One of the main tasks of the Tien Son Young Bamboo Cooperative at that time was the work of paying gratitude. The cooperative sent dozens of groups to take care of martyrs' mothers and families of wounded soldiers and soldiers. The group of Nguyen Thi Nham, Hoang Thi Thieng and Than Ngoc Thuy took care of mother Xuyen since those years.

Recently, nearly 40 former members of the Tien Son Young Bamboo Cooperative gathered in Tien Son village. Nguyen Tan Loc, former Chairman of the Tan Yen district Fatherland Front Committee and former head of the Hop Duc Secondary School’s vanguard children team, still remembered each student's name. They were former members of the vanguard children team and the Tien Son Young Bamboo Cooperative.

In 1948, President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter to children, suggesting the organization of the Tran Quoc Toan movement, while the Young Bamboo Cooperative was launched by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee. From the deed of Tien Son children, Loc discovered and multiplied children groups doing this.

At the Hop Duc Secondary School, a ceremony to launch the Tran Quoc Toan movement was held. The communal house of Tien Son village was the place where the Tien Son Young Bamboo Cooperative made debut with more than 50 members of the Ho Chi Minh Vanguard Children Union.

More than half a century has passed. The management board of the cooperative now includes Nguyen Thi Nham - Vice President and Hoang Thi Thieng - Treasurer.

Thieng said: “We were still very young at that time. After school time, we went to the families that we volunteered to take care of. All aimed to help soldiers who lived far away feel secure on their duties and not worry about their parents at home."

Among the first members of Tran Quoc Toan team in Tien Son that year, some later worked far from home and some joined the army, so their names were rarely mentioned. The movement "Miss Tam joins the team" in Tien Son was a creative application of the suggestion in Uncle Ho's letter.

It was originated in Tien Son village and then spread to the whole Hop Duc commune, gradually becoming a common movement of the district, the province and the whole country. Many children in Hop Duc commune attended the International Summer Camp and the National Congress of Uncle Ho's Good Children. The groups of the Tien Son Young Bamboo Cooperative now still take care of the families and mothers of martyrs whom they had looked after in the past.

Secretary of the Youth Union of Hop Duc commune Cap Thi Quyen said the locality is proud to be the cradle of the "Miss Tam joins the team" movement, which is still maintained now. In addition to educating traditions, the communal Youth Union and the two schools regularly take gratitude activities.

Every year, the Youth Union and Children’s Council of the commune and nearly 1,000 members of the Vanguard Children Teams of the Hop Duc Primary and Secondary Schools promote activities of visiting and giving gifts on the occasion of Tet (Lunar New Year), helping the families of war invalids and martyrs with their daily works like the brothers and sisters did in the past.

We said farewell to "Mr Tam and Miss Tam" - the first people lighting up the fire of gratitude to help policy beneficiary families in the countryside of Tien Son, but we cannot help but admire. Today, the young bamboo generations in Hop Duc commune continue to inherit the spirit of "When drinking water, remember the source" of the previous generations.
