Bac Giang: Agricultural products see high prices, favorable sale
Notably, just a week ago, the prices of many types of flowers dropped deeply but they have now doubled. Serving this Lunar New Year, the Sao Vuong fresh flower and ornamental plant cooperative in Bao Dai commune (Luc Nam district) planted more than 10 hectares of flowers of all kinds, of which gladiolus area accounts for more than 60 percent.
Many kinds of flowers have seen favorable sle with high prices. |
Nguyen Thi Sao, Director of the cooperative, said that more than a week ago, the price of gladiolus purchased in the field stood at 3,000-6,000 VND per flower, but from February 6, it has nearly doubled. Specifically, French red gladiolus is sold for 6,000 VND per flower; Dutch new red gladiolus 9,000 VND per flower; and Italian square red lily 10,000 VND per flower. At the same time, the prices of some other flowers have increased by 30-60 percent compared to a week ago. With the current selling prices, farmers gain a profit of 20-25 million VND (870-1,090 USD) per sao (360sq.m) of gladiolus; 30 million VND (1,310 USD) per sao of big-bloom chrysanthemum; and over 50 million VND (2,184 USD) per sao of late lisianthus.
According to some flower growers, the reason for the price hike is the scarcity of these flowers. Dang Thi Tinh, the owner of the province’s largest gladiolus garden in Thanh Luong village, Quang Thinh commune (Lang Giang district), said that tens of thousands of gladiolus flowers of her family kept in cold storage from last week all have been purchased by traders. As the Covid-19 pandemic calmed down, the people's demand for Tet flowers has increased again.
