Bac Giang creates housing supplies for workers

Updated: 20:41, 09/09/2019
(BGO) - In order to provide accommodations for officials and workers in industrial zones (IZs), many social housing projects for workers have been approved by the People's Committee of Bac Giang province. It is expected that three more buildings for workers in the Van Trung IZ and an urban area project in Nenh township (Viet Yen district) will be completed by 2020.

Accelerating the progress of projects

The province now has four industrial zones and many industrial clusters that have been put into operation. The industrial zones alone have about 85,000 workers, most of them are from other provinces. Many workers have to rent rooms in residential areas near the workplace. To meet the needs of laborers, the province has planned and approved many social housing projects for workers.

The Fugiang Co., Ltd speeds up the construction of houses for workers in Van Trung commune (Viet Yen district).

The Van Trung worker housing project in Van Trung commune (Viet Yen district) was approved in 2016. Invested by Fugiang Co., Ltd., the project covers an area of 16.7 hectares and is designed to include 28 18-storey buildings for social housing, 15 three-storey buildings for commercial housing and many other items, accommodating about 15,4000 workers in the Dinh Tram and Van Trung IZs.

By this time, the unit has basically completed the civil work for three 18-storey buildings. The company is coordinating with the locality in persuading local people to receive site clearance compensations for the remaining area.

Similarly, the Nenh township urban area project (Viet Yen district) was approved in 2017. The 10.6ha project is invested by the provincial Development Investment Fund. The investor and the local authorities have completed the site clearance in July 2019. The work is expected to be completed and put into use in 2020, meeting the housing needs for more than 7,000 workers.

Removing "bottlenecks" in site clearance

According to the provincial Department of Construction, housing projects for workers will help workers improve the quality of life, thus ensuring social security. However, the projects are currently behind schedule, mainly due to slow site clearance.

In addition to two projects that have been put into use previously, namely the worker housing area of the Fuhong Precision Component Co., Ltd. in the Dinh Tram Industrial Zone (Viet Yen district) and the Dong Ri worker housing area (Son Dong district) for more than 7,000 workers, the province has been planning 13 land zones for building social housing for workers, with a total area of about 280ha

Nguyen Manh Hung, head of the Housing and Real Estate Market Management Division (the provincial Department of Construction)

Nguyen Van Phuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Yen district, said the site clearance faces difficulties as some households want to increase compensation prices. Currently, for the Van Trung worker housing project, people in Van Coc 3 and 4 villages do not agree with the offered compensation prices.

The housing project for workers in the Dinh Tram Industrial Zone plans to use about 3 hectares of land in Hoang Mai 1, Hoang Mai 2 and Hoang Mai 3 villages of Hoang Ninh commune. But for three years, the Vuong Vi Co., Ltd. has not kicked off the project yet because only 21 households received compensation. In addition, many households in the area have invested tens of billions of VND into building houses for rent so they do not accept compensation.

Solving this problem requires concerted efforts by the authorities at all levels, the people and investors. In particular, investors should actively coordinate with the localities in speeding up ground clearance, and focus on mobilizing resources to ensure the progress.

At present, only the Fugiang Co., Ltd. is discussing with the people of Van Coc 3 and 4 villages on the improvement of roads by the company if the people accept compensation.
